Best rifle for coyote and hogs

There are sabot rounds for the .30-06 which would work fine for coyote and other small game. Hornady makes a 110gr sp in .308 which would also do the job.

Another solution might be to get a used shotgun for pigs and a .22 to .25 centerfire for everything else.

I wouldn't be concerned about burning up barrels. There's no reason you need hot loads to hunt anything you're going to shoot at. A .243 can spit out a 75gr bullet out at 3400fps. The same bullet at 2800fps will kill a coyote dead.

I have a 260 Sako 75. It shoots 140 grain Nosler partions into honest 5/8" five shot groups. I have shot a couple of hogs and a few coyotes with this gun and all have been one shot kills. Low recoil and long range capablity in a handy package.

General Purpose Rifle

I would pick a bolt action in 270, 308, or 30-06. There are factory loads, or can be handloaded, down to around the 243 or loaded for higher performance. But there many other options. I picked the 308 for myself based on fimiliarity.

While many hogs are small you can run into a large one that tops 300 lbs easily in florida and probably anywhere else if it is Sus scrofa domesticus gone feral. When you choose your rifle caliber keep that in mind.

Though shot placement is crucial and the 243 Winchester, or 223 Remington for that matter, will do the job, I like to err on the side of caliber/bullet weight when it comes to hunting medium game. But that's me.
For varmint use the smaller calibers really shine. 17 remington, 204 Ruger, 223 Remington, 22-250 Remington, 220 Swift, 243 Winchester, and 6mm Remington. The .22 and smaller calibers really aren't very adequate for medium game.
So it seems that since a compromise is in order the caliber ought to be midrange. 25-06 Remington is probably the better option as a dual purpose rifle.
