Best Reasonably priced scope Tasco?

I'm really shocked (with all the Tasco bashing). Rings and bases have not been discussed in this thread and they are very important. One piece bases are better than two, and tourqued in rings are better than weaver mounted ones. Steel mounts are better than aluminum mounts and rings and rings with friction paper are better than those without. It very very easy to bend an aluminum scope tube with steel rings.. if you aren't sure have a smith mount your scope.

I use Burris mounts and rings with my tasco world Class 3x9, I don't know what sort of abuse you guys are subjecting your rifles and scopes to.. but the Tasco on my rifle just put 5 rounds through a quarter at 100 yards on Sunday. It's been doing that for years, in all kinds of conditions. IF I do ever break it, Tasco will replace it. What's not to like?

Your results may vary. But suggest you LOOk at a variety of scopes, check the clarity of the optics, the adjustments that can be made the fit and finish first hand. Is a Ziess scope really worth the extra $500-1000 dollars you will pay over a simmons?.. Only you can be the judge.

Because, Dr. Rob, who wants a scope to break in the hunting field, whether they will replace it or not!!

If all you are doing is shooting from a bench in your back yard, then OK! (Well, sort of OK. Really, I don't want to have to take my scope off, take to dealer, then re-mount and re-sight a new scope)).

I've had to do this with my Simmons. Not a Tasco, true, but I've heard of Tasco's doing it. In fact, my dealer claims he gets broken Tasco's and Simmon's regularly. He brags about how good their warranty is. Big Deal!!!

Just because you've had good luck with your Tasco, or even with your 6 Tasco's, doesn't mean it is a good scope. They don't sell them for less money just because they want to help shooters out!

Dr Robb
I agree with you. In MOP I just can't justify the pricy scopes. I has a Simmons 3x9x40 (not mounted to a .308) that I have never had a problem with. I have a BSA 4x16x40 mounted on a .308, it has been for years and does a wonderful job....Sub MOA :) I also am waiting for a Simmoms 4x16x40 that is going on my M1A that is in the shop. If they break, there is that little paper that says "Life Time Warranty" I don't think I will break them.
Then again, I don't hunt either.

These guys bashing those cheap scopes are speaking from expeirence. That doesn't mean you can't get good service out of a Tasco or Bushnell or simmons but your chances are greater that you will have problems. No more cheap scopes for me they are junk or will be in a few shooting sessions. MY oldest Leupold is over 20 years old and still working great, yes it has been used hard and put up wet many times but not what I would call abused. If you can afford a rifle that cost 400 dollars or more you can afford a quality scope to hang on it.

i personally had several tasco scopes in my young and foolish days.the story about the scope rings bashing the tube is bunk.they just make crappy scopes.

tasco makes a rubber armored scope that comes with its own rings.i once packed up 14 of these scopes to send back to tasco for repair because the reticle would just spin around.

they are junk junk junk!!!!!!!!

I've owned 4 Tasco scopes. The best thing I can say about them is, I had ONE that worked. Like someone else said "You get what you pay for".

I've had good luck with Leupold & Nikon.

I've got 6 scopes on my rifles:
1. Simmons Aetec 2.5-10x 44mm-$135 - my newest scope, mounted on a .308. Bright and clear, no problems with it. Seems to just suck in light. Eye relief is astounding
2. Simmons -Whitetail Classic 2.5-10x, 44mm-$99. Optics are almost as good as the Aetec-very clear. Mounted on a 7mm RM for several years. Had an initial problem with the power adjustment screw, as it wasn't tightened enough at teh factory and I couldn't adjust the magnification. I tightened it and it has worked flawlessly since. Eye relief is standard.
3. Tasco generic 6-24x 40mm -$99 (cheap varmint scope)-sometimes on my AR-15. Not as clear as the Simmons, but a good buy for the money. Eye relief sucks due to the high power. I wouldn't bet my life on it.
4. Tasco 4x 32mm on 10/22. My squirrel scope. Looks fine if you're used to that kind of scope. Eye relief is not the greatest. Look through the Aetec and you're spoiled. I've shot many squirrels with it though. They apparently have little to criticize.
5. Bushnell 4x 32mm. On my Win94 in 30/30. The "padding ring" on the back edge of the ocular lens fell off when I had it on my .308. So did the comapny labels on the adjustment caps. it's about like the Tasco 4x 32mm in optical quality. It sits atop "see-through" rings for obvious reasons.

i also have not had much luck with tasco all of the tasco scopes i have owned have either fell apart or just mysteriously stopped working. but i have learned from my mistakes i will now only put a tasco on an air rifle or maybe a cheap .22 and have had no trouble there.Bushnell has been fine all bushnell scopes i have purchased worked up to my expectations. If im gonna mount a scope on a rifle with some recoil i go right to leopold, leopold has never failed me.
