Best Reasonably priced scope Tasco?

Does anyone have experience with a Tasco, or Simmons scope under 100 dollars. I want this for a .270 bolt gun.
What power do you recommend for 100-300 yards. When I can afford a better scope I will probably put this one on a .22 I own.

I've been using Tasco for 25 years - never had a bad one. The best 100 yard group I ever fired (.24 inches at 100 yards) was with a Tasco scope. My Leupold IS better but probably not enough, for hunting applications, to justify the increase in price.

You can hardly go wrong with the 3x9 World Class - all Tasco scopes have a lifetime warranty. You may even find there is no need to upgrade later.

My opinion -to say the least

MY expeirences have been the opposite. I have had and seen others have lots of failures with Tascos, simmions, and Bushnell scopes.I recomend Leupold without any reservation. You get what you pay for when you buy a scope usually. I have tried several different brands over the years and I have traded them all off and replaced them with Leupolds. One example I can tell you is about a friend of mine who went antelope hunting out west this year.He had always bought Tascos and made fun of me spending the extra money on Leupolds. Well it just so happens that 3 of them went out west hunting with Tascos on all rifles. Two of their scopes failed on them and they had to share the third rifle to bag their game. They were lucky that they were hunting antelope instead of other game and had several chances to bag game. Also My brother in law bought 2 new tascos for a couple of 22 mag rifles for him and his son this last summer. Both scopes had the cross hairs break on them in less than 2 months of casual use. yes they do have a good waranty but so does most scope builders and that don't help much after you spend possibly several hundred dollars for ever a fairly cheap hunting trip.As far as I am concerned a top quality scope is a bargan.Save your money until you can buy top quality. If you don't better make sure you got a spare rifle or good backup iron sights on your rifle which is a good idea anyway.

i have a bauch and lomb 5X15X50mm matte finish with ajustable objective on closeout for $225.email me for details.this scope is new in the box with factory warrenty papers.i have only 3 left..

I have been Hunting with tasco world class 3x9x40's for almost ten years. i bought my first tasco after a Weaver scope I had failed and fogged in a 3rd season elk hunt. Scopes seem to have a 'service life', after ten years many of them fail. (well at least weavers do)

I use 1 rifle for elk deer and antelope, that rifle has a tasco on top. I hunt in terrain from flat to vertical and in temperatures from 95 to -30 degrees. I have a lot of faith in my tasco scopes.

Best value for around $100 as you can find.

The only scope that flat busted...

in three shots on a .308 was a Tasco. You could hear parts rattle in it.
IMHO. The best value in a cheap scope is Swift (no relation:D) Optics. I have had two, and their warranty is simple: It breaks, we replace it.
I used one on the same .308, and currently have their 4-12X50 on my .221 RFB.
B&L and Leupold are better, but Swift is a hell of a value for under $200. :D

I like the Tasco World Class (3-9x40) so far. I'm new to rifle shooting (centerfire rifles at least), but the first time I attempted 3-shot groups at 100 yards, I managed a 1/2 inch group (Hirtenberger ammo) and a 1 inch group (Radway Green ammo). No complaints there, but since I've only put about 25 rounds through the rifle with this scope, I can't speak to durability and maintaining accuracy over a long period.

I eventually wouldn't mind a Leupold, and certainly if I were going on the "hunt of a lifetime," I'd make a point of investing in higher quality glass. For now though, I'm quite happy with the Tasco.

Just read the rest of your post. For 100 to 300 yards, a 3-9x40 variable is a good choice. However, I don't think that this scope would be good for a .22. IMHO, with a .22, it seems that the most scope you'd need would be a good 4x.

Every few years I claim to have bought my last $#&@! Tasco and every few years I do it again. My last exp. was a few months ago. The salesman said the World Class "Plus" scopes were different and would not break like all the others. 60 rounds of 30-06 through my 700 and guess what? Won't hold point of impact, just like all the others. If I had all the money I've spent on these things I could have bought enough Leupolds to put on all my rifles. Why do I keep doing it

Hope you break down and show better sense than me.

Tasco SS "M" models.............

Blue Duck............I too am afflicted with the Disease of DA......I purchased 3 of these Super sniper scopes.......
LOOK fine!!!!!!..........1/3rd the price of anything close.
One went 250 rounds.....side focus failure.
Second one, mounted on rifle, and went 50 rounds....focus failure........
Third one......mounted, and focus failure....before the FIRST shot.
Tasco's explanation????.........sit down you'll roll laughing........
My bases are crushing the tube, and causing the faiures..........
Why, they are only MK4's, and MK4 base( 1 Piece).
You know CHEAP junk............
And believe me, I KNOW how NOT to mount a scope........
Just to assure you I am not a total DOLT....I bought these at different times, and always fell, for all the stories of " they are holding up on my .50 cals!!".
they are tough as nails...heck the SEALS even use them.......
I know, no flame war's please, but shaft me once , shame on you, shaft me twice shame on me, shaft yourself three times......I/you deserve it.
As Mr. Poe said," Never more quoteth the Raven!!!!".

Oh! well if they reported excellent results... maybe I should give them another try :D

No! I will find a twelve step program to stop this disorder and when I do you will see me crest the ridge with a brand new Leupold even if I have to mount it on a Lorcin!

K-mart All Pro

Who made the K-Mart All Pro scopes? I have 2 of them in 4x that I bought about 15 yrs ago. I have used them on an SKS, two different 12ga. slug guns and several .22's and they have worked great, held the zero for years, in all kinds of weather. I have never had a hi-dollar scope so I guess I don't know what I have been missing. I have a BSA 4x16x50 that is even better and only cost $85 from MIDWAY.

For what it's worth, I puchased a Simmons 4X scope that lost a lens during the initial sight-in. It simply fell into a crosswise position. This was on a 30-30 Winchester, not a magnum.

The warranty "worked" fine, but what good is a warranty when you are on a hunt!

Define "reasonably priced . . ."

I'm a Leupold fan. I've busted without abusing Tascos, Bushnells, Simmons, etc. But if you want a good scope for a bit less than a Leupold, check out Burris. For your application, look at the compact 3-9x with adjustable objective. Great for 100-300 yards, and the AO will focus down to 7 yards when you move it to a .22. SWFA or Bear Basin (http://www.bearbasin.com) should have them for around $240. A bit more than the $100 you mention, but definitely worth the difference.

Check out http://www.charm.net/~kmarsh/sport.html. A great tutorial on scopes, including what to expect from cheap ones.
