best pump

I carried a Remington 870p on guard duty when I was in the Marines. Always loved that shotgun. Will get one myself one day.

I've owned many, many pump shotguns over the past fifty years or so, every thing from an abominable Smith & Wesson Model 916, through a Winchester Model 97, a Smith & Wesson Model 3000, an Ithaca Model 37, a Marlin 120, a Remington Model 870, a Winchester Model 1300, a Benelli Nova, a Mossberg Model 835 and a Browning BPS. I regard the Winchester Model 12 as the best pump shotgun ever made-period. The next best, imo, would be the Browning BPS. That Smith Model 3000 (Howa manufactured) was a very good shotgun too.

Neo, "Sexy" has zero to do with it.

Placing a shot precisely and quickly is easier with a clean light trigger, with any arm.

If you shot any COF imaginable with two shotguns identical in all aspects but the trigger weight and crispness, your splits and scores would show the better trigger to give superior results.

Same with ANY experienced shotgunner here.

Agreed on "Best pump shotgun for you"...

I have several 870's and Mossbergs (500 and 835) in the safe. I generally prefer the 870 but I have an affinity to my short 18.5" accuchoked 500 for it's light weight and quick handling in the thickets here for deer drives. The 835 has mostly become a loaner gun to nephews whose shoulders and spines haven't been as abused as mine have :D.

If I had to sell off all my pump guns due to loss of income or disability the last remaining would be my old Remington 31. It's a family heirloom and the gun I learned to shoot with and at it's age and with the number of shells it's shucked in it's lifetime it is slick as snail snot.

Looking forward to giving it it's annual workout in the dove opener here in a few weeks.

Oh, and by the way, I noticed earlier tonight that budsgunshop.com has some police trade in 870 police and wingmaster models on sale for 250 to 290 shipped. 2 3/4 and 3 inch guns with 20" rifle sighted barrels and speedfeed I stocks. Had I not been after other game (revolver) I may have picked one of those up.

I've owned two 870's, Mossberg 500, Ithaca 37, and Browning BPS. The 870's fit the best and I could shoot lights out with them. I liked the 37 the best because of the weight and the excellent patterning. Wish I hadn't sold it.

The Remington 31 was one nice shotgun and rivaled my aforementioned personal favorite (the Model 12) in every respect.

Regarding the Benelli Supernova:

1.) Mine does not rattle, never has, and after 500+ rds, I hope it never will.
2.) The trigger is not noticeably bad. I was always trained that you want to be surprised everytime the weapon is activated by the trigger, so you do not anticipate the recoil...this negates a hair trigger neccesity for me....now, the hair trigger is more surprising, but I still have no complaints about any trigger on any firearm besides my Harrington Richardson 999.

add a fold able stock.

First of all, that's (unfortunately) an 870. Notice the crossbolt safety and barrel ring/mag extension.

Secondly, why someone would do that to one is beyond me :barf:. Looks like it was beaten about the head and shoulders with the entire Tacstar catalogue.

But...........different strokes..........:D

Sarge, surprise triggers are not best for shotguns. We want to know exactly when that hammer drops so we can synchronize things with the target speed.

If the target is still, then a surprise break has advantages.
