Best overall Elk Levergun?

HPIM0375.jpg

I snapped this photo last month at 35 Remington range. But that was before the mountains were intruded by 4 wheelers and archers with bugling gear. I seriously doubt a non-resident who is unfamiliar with this country should plan for a close shot during regular rifle season.

I suggest borrowing a good 30-06 or .308 and plan to shoot at about 225 yards or so. I'm certain that some 35 Remington shooters are up to this task using specialty ammo. But I'm still recommending a rifle with more reach.

Good hunting to you.

It's the Southern variety Elf that gets BIG and mean - I wouldn't set foot in Southern Elf habitat without being armed with a .458 Lott or similar.
Game laws in this region require a minimum of .50 bmg. Mainly because of the elusive but very dangerous (santos fatius) a very big elf which is red and white in color and is known for burglarizing the local population. He is usually only spotted in the winter months.
lol
In a lever I would consider the .444 marlin.

A .30-30 will do if you will. A friend of mine took 14 elk in a row before passing away a few years ago. Prior to that he used .270s and .30-06s until he decided he didn't really need that much gun. As he put it, "Its only a hundred yards or so, and despite the magazines, they aren't that tough. Hell, just shoot 'em where you mean to."

Of course, he was more of a "hunter" than a "shooter," if you know what I mean.

"Best?" If pressed I'd have to vote one of the .45-70 variants.

if

if you know that you can hold yourself to the ranges mentioned then the
.35'll do it if you do. me i'd take my marlin .45-70 guide gun.:D

I really dont see the point of the lever action , but were i to take one elk hunting it would be a browning blr chambered in .308. I know its boreing but should work with ballistics i am familiar with lol .
