Best "Only One Gun" for all time: the Glock 19... Yes or No?

If I could only own one handgun my first choice would be a 4 inch Smith 19 with an action by Ron Power and custom Rosewood grips by Hogue checkered by Pat Taylor.

In an automatic I would go for a Commander size 1911 style pistol first, followed by a G19 with an ARS grip reduction. JMHO

For a carry gun the Glock 19 would be tops on my list. I owned a G23 previously and it was one great pistol. Very reliable, great pointing, tough, and very low maintenance. Sold it to get the newer frame style with the finger grooves and reinforced frame lugs. I then decided to get a smaller pistol and went with G26. Recently, I bought a Kimber Classic but have not shot it yet. The Kimber, being a 1911, has a feel all its own and brings with it a certain pride of ownership. Looks great, lots of heft and that wonderful single action. Having said that, it may be religated to being a range gun. For bet your life situations I don't think there is better combat handgun than the Glock 19,23,32 models. If I were going to pick one, it would be the 19. Less recoil, cheaper ammo, and several great rounds to chose from. JohnH

NO.Not that the glock isn't good firearm but it doesn't fit me at all. Will stick with my sig 220 or my old S&W 19 4 inch.
PS My G19 is in a shop for sale

no, I`d take my Kimber Gold match any day over my glock 31,but if i had to use it for hunting also then i might choose my .44 super blackhawk!

I guess the Glock 19 would be a decent choice. The only thing is every time you take it out, you have to look at the butt ugly thing. It is kind of like waking up next to an ugly woman.

I don't think I'd make a 9mm the best all around gun. It would have to be at least a full-capacity 40. Probably a Glock 23 for me or a Sig 229.

If everything were readily available, a 10mm would be great.

One gun? Hmmmm...

I LOVE my G19 (both of them!), but one gun?

I'll probably have to go with a custom 1911 stainless, in 10mm with an extra barrel in .40 cal and an extra longer 10mm barrel for hunting. Good for hunting, defense, carry and all-around compromise (and who likes to have to do THAT?!)

OR... maybe a Glock 20 with a 6" hunting barrel, and a .40 cal barrel. Hmmm...

having one pistol is like eating only one kind of food. you would survive and depending on the food maybe be healthy but it would suck.
one woman? OK
one dog? sure, they don't live that long
one car? be sure it's a truck
one pistol? heck no life is too short!!!

For years I wanted a G19 but could not afford one. I had a Ruger SP101 in .38 special for home defense but I always wanted a Glock 19.

I came into a few bucks and walked into my favorite dealers and he had just got a new G17 in. Although I wanted a G19 and my research told me it was the one gun I should have, I was weak and I bought it. No regrets but I still wanted a Glock 19.

A year later I came into some more cash. I walked into my favorite dealer again and he had just become a Glock dealer. He had a G17, G22, G23, G26, G27, and yes, a G19. Faster than you can say "background check" I had a new Glock 19 in three days.

It is the perfect handgun. The perfect caliber, the perfect size, the perfect action. I understand those who love 1911's, or HPs, or Revolvers, or .45's over the 9mm, but if you had to have just one handgun, the logical choice is clearly the Glock 19.

If it was a carry gun, the gun would be a
Glock 19.

If it was an all purpose gun for the rest of my life - it would be a SW 686+ with a 4 or
6 inch barrel.

It would certainly rank up there. Tossup with the 1911. Like the .45 better then the 9mm, but reliability and ease of maintenance would rank the G19 a little above. Stopping power would go to the 1911.

uh...no.

that one wasn't even hard.

1911.

NO,

I'd rather have my S&W 19 .357 mag if I could only have one handgun.

Shotgun by far, but for handgun, a 1911A1!

If I could only have one "pistol" I'd have to go with the Glock G31 or 32 and most any top shelf 125gr JHP loads. Sweet shooting round and should prove to be a very effective defense round based on it's feed reliability, inherent accuracy and gelatin performance compared to other defensive loads.

Now, if we're talking only one "gun" I'd have to go with some variant of H&K's MP5 with selective fire and a good red dot sight.

Nice gun, would be tempting, but I'll pass.

If I was limited to only one gun, it would be a Ruger GP100 s/s 4" barrel w/ adj sights. I would have the barrel cut back to 3", dehorn the whole gun, and finished in black matte. Also fit a ramp front sight w/ tritium insert.

One gun.....? NEVER!!!!!!!
