DA/SA the P-220 without any doubt! If the DA 1st shot ias of bother.....get a action job from Novak's, did same, now don't even notice it during "combat" style shooting matches. Carry a G21 & use it for IDPA, just a wonderful pistol, nice soft recoil, very accurate. The grip is large but know a good few local shooters with "normal" size hands that have & like the 21. More seem to like the 2nd. Generation grip.

Had Hk Tactical...sold it. Owned 3 Glock 21s to date and carry a 30. Simply the MOST SIMPLE gun there is in .45! It is also the fastest. And the most reliable by my experience. Never a jam in an IPSC match or otherwise. You can all have your exposed hammers, dbl action, decockers...when I put my finger on the trigger I want it to go bang and now! No one here has mentioned ergonomics, the Glock has the lowest bore axis. Much better than Sig, Hk (except P7), Ruger, etc. The Glock will do everything the others do but faster. Have you ever had a critical plan fall to pieces? Patton once said "The best plan is one in which you win even if everything goes wrong." That means Glock to me.

True , racegunner, the Glock does have the lowest bore axis, but for me, I just don't like the grip angle. Plus I also feel the grip is "fat" on the G21. But like I said , that is me. You are just better off, if you can go out and try the different pistols mentioned to see which you like best.

Parabellum, why are you hesitant to recommend any of the 9mm Glocks these days?[/quote]

He said he was hesitant to recommend any NON-9mm Glock. Probably because of the less supported chamber in the big-bore .40
and .45 Glocks, which makes them susceptible to case failures with out of spec ammo (reloads). I've owned 40, 10mm and .45ACP Glocks since '90, and had no problems. Although the .45 Super brass bulges a little too much for my taste in the stock barrel.

I owned a G22 and did keep track of the case bulging also. It seemed the more I fired the gun the more the brass bulged. I kept sample brass from every outing, and the bulging of the web area was indeed increasing. Could this have come from the gun starting to fire slightly out of battery? If for some reason I would end up with another Glock it will be the 17 or 19.

If I end up with another Glock it will be a miracle.

CZ97 looks interesting (a reliable EAA?)

The bulging gets worse because as the barrel gets dirtier, the chamber pressure increases. This is why you should never shoot unjacketed lead bullets in a Glock (or any other polygonal rifled barrel) unless you clean it every 20 rounds or so.

Shot nothing but FMJ in my Glock, so leading wasn't a problem. The brass that I saved from each firing was from the first 5 shots I did for that day of shooting, and I cleaned thoroughly after each session.

Frontsight; Their choices make sense to me. CZ's are the most underated pistols on the market. Ruger's are simply THE best VALUE on the market. That said, IMHO, the Sig P-220 is the finest non-1911 there is. Best Regards, J. Parker

My two best .45's are the Glock 21 and the Ruger P-97. Both are accurate, reliable.

When it comes to non-1911 .45's, I like the Smith & Wesson 4513TSW -- it also happens to be Capt. Massad Ayoob's (an active police captain with the Grantham, NH police department) off-duty carry gun.

long shot

I've had a H&K USP and a Sig P220. Both were excellent weapons. Had a Glock .40 caliber also and it was okay. But all things considered, The E.A.A. Witness I had in .45 was just as accurate, just as reliable, in many cases looked better and felt better, and all for over 250.00 less than the ones mentioned above. Most of the above weapons run 599.00-699.00 around here. I picked up a brand new Witness for 310.00 after tax not long ago. By the way, never owned a Ruger. Heard great things about them but they're so big and ugly!!!! :)

Depending on your preferences, the decision is likely to be between the HKs, the Glocks, and the Sigs.

Ayoob is an Honorary police captain with the Grantham, NH police department. Big difference.
