Best movie where a woman defended herself with a gun!

good movie from the 80's

Gloria

havent seen it in years but the woman was kicking
some serious butt with a revolver of some sort

she was protecting an kid whose family was killed by the mob
and the mob was chasing both of them

it is probably in the five dollar bin at the local big box store
gonna have to look for it now.....

There was a recent-ish film called Haywire.

It was the story of a female agent who is double-crossed by her boss/handle (Ewan MacGregor) and she battles her way from Europe to exact her revenge.

Needless to say she relied on a gun a few times.

On a more flamboyant note, I suppose any Lara Croft scene qualifies...

Not a good movie but Margaux Hemingway was in a move called Lipstick where she had her way with the bad guy with what I think was a pump 30-06.

We may have to throw Thelma and Louise in here too.

More recently Columbiana, Smokin Aces and Kick Ass have strong female leads though they may cross the line between defensive/offensive use of force.

Movie "Cutthroat Island", Geena Davis played a pirate queen in the days of sail. In the finale she blew away (literally) the chief bad guy with a 12-pounder cannon.

(Edited to add name of film.)

Raiders of the Lost Arc.
First Marian shoots thug in the back of his head with a broomhandle Mauser, then uses the machine gun on the plane to shoot more bad guys.

There are some micro budget films from Andy Sidiris (SP?) that feature women special agents who get into shoot outs. Horrid acting (Julie Strain is a terrible actress) plot holes, and awful scripts, but they have women with guns and that makes these horrid films worth watching if you have nothing better to do.

Hard Ticket To HI?....

Are you talking about the b-movie/hard R classic; "Hard Ticket To Hawaii"?... ;)

The one film with the WWII soldier sub-plot was decent in my opine.

I'd add that post #20 brings up The Equalizer, a popular crime drama on CBS in the mid 1980s. Robert Macall(Edward Woodward) did tote around a big Desert Eagle but I think it was mostly for PR photos(media releases).
Desert Eagles were shown in Robert's secret armory & he did carry them but if you look closely he packed a large S&W 645 .45acp pistol a lot more than a Desert Eagle. There are details here; www.imfdb.org .

PS; IMDb.com states that the cop thriller; Year of the Dragon was the first Hollywood film to display a IMI Desert Eagle .357magnum. :)

I watched that movie ONE time and the savage beating that her CO lays down on her was more than I could stand... even if she took it and gave it back as well.

I don't think of myself as squeamish but sometimes in movies I'll see something and know right away that I don't care to ever watch it again.

Actually, in the movie I listed above ("Eye for an Eye" with Sally Field), I don't watch the early scene with the older daughter and Kiefer Sutherland. I saw it the first time, it obviously sets the movie up, but I don't care to ever see it again. I'm sure I've seen the movie a dozen times but I've only seen that scene once.

On that note, Sevens, one of the worst movies for self defense by woman with gun is Reservoir Dogs, where the woman in the car chooses to draw on two carjackers who have the drop on her, and does not live to learn from her mistake. I have seen that movie multiple times, but do not re-watch the scene where the cop is tortured.

Good movies with chicks using guns:

Madeleine Stowe, "Last of the Mohicans"
Candice Bergen, "Bite the Bullet"
Kate Mara, "Shooter" (hope there's a sequel)
Saoirse Ronan, "Hanna" (hope there's a sequel to that one too)
