A locked glovebox is always about 1/10 of a second away from being unlocked
And that could very well be the difference between life and death with regards to one more thing to fumble with under stress.
IMO bad idea for protection to be in the glovebox LOCKED because most of us will have the glovebox key on the same key ring with the ignition key which will make it extremely difficult to open.
 
My SUV has pockets on the back of the front bucket seats. While traveling, my CCW goes into the pocket on the back of the passenger's seat. I can reach it easily and get a full grip on it before pulling it out of the pocket. It goes back in the holster or my pocket depending on which gun I'm carrying before I get out of the car.
