You didn't mention a price but if you are thinking .45 and in the glock/budget 1911 range I say a steel witness. The small frame ones can behad with a 22 conversion for around 500 and if you want something a little nicer the stock series goes up fro there too around a grand. All shoot nice and have great ergonomics. You can even get a 6 inch hunter version for under a k.
Since this is in the semi handgun section, I would vote for my Ruger MKII bull barrel - cheap to shoot, no recoil, accurate. At .05-.08/round, a LOT less to shoot than any .45.
I've yet to purchase a 1911 myself--partly because for years I've shot an xdm 45 which is quite nice, thank you. But I know one day it will happen--I just have to make my mind up between 45 and 10 mm (already have a g20 sf)
