Best Full Size CCW Handgun?

Full-choke

I am looking to get a new pistol to turn into my CCW gun. My current one is a rebuilt Taurus PT1911 in 45ACP. It is an excellent gun and a good shooter, but I was thinking of trying something different for a while. What are some of the other guns people are carrying in the full size range?

I was really leaning towards a Beretta 92 in 9mm but I am unsure. Is that a wise choice or is there better out there?

I currently carry a Glock 22 in .40S&W. It's tough to conceal while only wearing a tee-shirt and jeans, but it's doable. None of my closest friends and family even knew it was there. I think something slightly smaller would be a bit better. I've been going thru the same bout-just with compact/subcompact. I settled on the S&W M&P9 Shield. I'm just waiting for one of the local dealers to get a fresh batch in.

IIRC, the 92's are a bit fatter in the grip than the Glocks, but don't quote me on that. Both are great guns. If I was in the market for a full size CC gun I'd go with a single stack of some sort.

I've found a SIG model 220 Carry relatively comfortable to carry concealed in a Galco "King Tuck" iwb holster. I prefer an utterly reliable semi-auto with a single-stack mag (for less bulk around the waist when carrying concealed), having traditional da (da/sa), minimal levers and buttons and chambered in .45 ACP for a self-defense pistol-and the big SIG fits my requirement list on all counts.

The only full sized CCW gun I have are a FNP-45 double stack and a Taurus PT-99 in 9mm double stack. I don't carry these in the warmer weather here in Texas as most of the time I'm in shorts and T-shirt. I do carry a lot of the time a compact Kahr CW40 or a Sig P250 in 40 or a Ruger LCP in 380. The CW40 and the LCP are single stack, but the P250 is double stacked. What ever you settle on just make sure you have a good belt to support the weight and holster. For the LCP I carry it in a pocket holster 100% of the time. Good luck on your quest for the perfect carry weapon, all of us have gone thru it and sometimes it's more than one gun and holster combo.

My favorite CCW is my Beretta Cougar .45 & then my SIG P229 .40s&w. I've never had a failure fom either and the Cougar is an absolute tack driver.

If I were going to carry a full-sized pistol it would be my Glock 17...

A 1911....is my full sized choice...( in a 5" barrel ) .....like a Wilson Combat CQB model...(in .45acp is my primary carry gun).

Full size for me is my S&W Model 28 Highway Patrolman. I don't carry it every day, but I've yet to find a handgun I shoot better.

Top concealment picks, semi auto pistols.....

If you have the $ & skills, I would suggest a new/NIB DA only semi auto pistol.
These models would do very well; the SIG Sauer P229R, P224, P220RCarry(.45acp) all DAK format, the HK45compact(LEM-.45acp), the P2000 LEM, the Beretta PX4 9x19mm C model, the new Walther PPQ .40.

Night sights & CT Lasergrips are good add-ons for a carry gun.

I mainly carry a 1911, both are springfields, one in 5" the other a 4". But on occasion I will carry a 99 PT Taurus in 9mm. I've had this gun for more than 25 years and its a joy to shoot.

Since you asked, the best service-sized handguns (in my opinion, and in no particular order). These have all been around a while and have stood the test of time.

A well made 1911 in 45
A Sig 226 in 40SW
A Sig 229 in 9mm
A Glock 19 in 9mm
A Beretta 96 in 40SW
A CZ-75 in 9mm
A Browning Hi Power in 9mm
A Glock 21 in 45
A K-frame Smith in 357
A L-fram Smith (686) in 357
Ruger GP-100 in 357

Everyone has their favorites, and you have been presented with some attractive options, but if you like the Beretta, it is a fine pistol. I don't carry mine, but I love it as a range pistol, HD pistol, and a very handsome piece. (Mine is Inox with nice walnut grips.) I personally think the 92FS is a good value in the sense that the quality is quite high for a moderate price.

I can't imagine carrying a full size handgun concealed. The largest I carry during cold weather is a G26. Most of the time it is a S&W 642. I guess if I had to pick a larger handgun to try and conceal it would be a G19.
