Best feeding .45acp hollowpoint ammunition

What Don P suggested. Each gun is different and you have to try a variety to see what works best in yours. It's expensive, but well worth it if it's a self defense firearm. Spend the money and chalk it up to testing/experience.

I asked what has been reliable for YOU. Yes, I know each gun is different. Just trying to get an idea from others, what has been reliable for them, so I can see if that works for me. Snarky non-answers, just to be snarky, does not help.

I don’t see snarkiness, just good advice.

I’ve never had issues with Gold Dots or Remington Golden Saber. Federal HST is always a great performer but I’ve never shot it in 45ACP.

Unless there were deleted posts what WAS snarky was the response to good, and logical advise.
No shortcuts with proving what works best in any gun.

Gold Dots .45's won't fit in my Sig 220 mag after 2 rounds. Common issue as I learned afyer researching online. So I use Sig .45 ammo. Gold Dots regulated to the Springfield 1911A1.

I use the Hornady XTP's for my three.
Question \: is your feed ramped where joining the barrel, does it have the sharp edge of the chamber> is so, removing tht edge will improve feeding, as it was originally designed for RN-FMJ, not the HP style of smmo.

For anyone who owns a three inch barreled 1911,

Rather than make a request about a generic 3" Barrel 1911 why not list the exact 1911 gun you are requesting the ammunition for?
I'm sure that there are people here that actually own the same gun and thus can tell what they have discovered in their ownership process.

Beside that I can understand asking what 1911 owners have successfully used in their 3" 1911's.
At the least it will hopefully minimize the trial and error process with your ammunition search.
Why waste time with a multitude of ammo when you can at least start with the top reliable performers.
Good luck in your search and enjoy.

I really have no idea what will work in your particular pistol, but I would start with Speer Gold Dots and go from there. They worked flawlessly in my Colt Officer and Colt New Agent.

I've never had chronic feed issues in any 1911, but conceptually, I think rounds that most closely resemble 230 hardball in profile would be the best feeders.
I used at least three different versions of the Federal Hydra-shok, the first two were truncated cones, and the last was hardball-esque, they all ran great, but I suspect the last version had been refined to address some people finding TC bullets to be problem feeders.

My Colt Defender has digested everything I have ever fed it. I carry either 185 gr. +P Golden sabers or 230 gr. Ranger T. Mostly the Ranger T.
