Best defensive calibre

Ben,why do you say no to 180 gr .40?I own a CZ75B in 40 cal and find the 180 gr much more accurate than the 155 gr.Would the fact that the CZ is an all steel gun be the reason? I do know the CZ likes hotter loads, should I try 155 gr+p?HP or FMJ?

Marcus,

If I wanted 180 grains, I'd use a .45ACP. :)

There's no reason at all to use a slow .40 in my opinion. I've said that for a while and I still believe it. I might as well use a 185 grain .45ACP

I'm just a speed freak... don't worry about it. Use what works best for you. All I know is that SPEED is expansion's friend.

Take care bud,
Ben

Howdy Amigo's!

I would use just bout' any of those calibers (cept those Fifty cal. and above artillery pieces). YET there is no better defensive round than .45 COLT ("LC")...I like the Winchester lead roundnose "Super X" 850 f.p.s. and about 250gr. Nice! easy to shoot, hits hard and drills a big hole. The lead has a nice tendency to expand-especialy agianst bone...like say the rib cage- and do maximum dammage! Proven killer since 1873... even the magic bullet crowd must (begrudgingly) give it a "thumbs up"...

To Marcus46: I beleve the lighter rounds are easier to control. I have the taurus pt 100 and the springfield armory p9. I use the 155 grain star fires. And when I load, the 135 grain loaded light. I don't carry my reloads yet(only been doing it for a couple of years and although haven't had problems, just don't trust my self yet. Besides who would I sue if it didn't shoot. :) just kidding) Even the FBI created their own light round for the 40 instead of using the 180 grain.

As for defensive round, today since there is a 10 rd limit, go big or go home. The bigger the round the better. 45 acp is the way to go. I know I carry 40, but I picked it when there was a choice. I wanted the firepower of 9mm but the hit of a 45, so I went 40. Today (if you are buying a new gun,)and especially with the hi cap 45's (that still only hold 10) you can get the same number of bullets anywhere. So you choice now is how does it hit. (and para ordinace still has hi cap mags to give when you buy a new one.)
