Best DA revolver in 45 LC?

MSRP on a new Redhawk is a tick over a grand. For under a grand it'll likely be used. Mind you, buying a used revolver isn't like buying a used car. Takes a great deal of abuse to damage one.
Real question is what are you planning on doing with it?

M-25 Smith will handle "tier 2" loads, which I don't consider hot rod loads.
The point is why wreck a target grade revolver shooting loads that approach
magnum performance. Even in my 29s that are the same frame I don't shoot
Super hot loads. The Rugers are much more heavily built. The old model S&Ws
are hard to beat for fit & finish and out of the box trigger pull and accuracy.
Red Hawks and Black Hawks are built like tanks, but not near the fit and finish.
Trigger pull has a lot to be desired. Sure you can tune them up with all kinds
of after market kits, then we are comparing apples to oranges.

My purpose is pretty all round. I want it for plinking, occasionally shooting it in IDPA when I get a wild hair, and taking it on the occasional trip into grizzly country. Rugers fit my hands best, but I love S&Ws as well. I found a used Redhawk cut for moonclips at that is on auction for $485. I'll take that if I can get it. Otherwise I'll keep hunting. Would still like to snag a 25 if one comes around, but as stated above, very hard to find, and you pay for their scarcity.

Tier 2 would be quite a bit more stout than what you wrote that you are shooting (255 gr @ 875 fps). Anything above SAAMI spec is fair game for calling it "hot rodding", whether "Ruger only" or what we refer to as Tier 2.
