Best concealed-hammer .38 special revolvers

I prefer the 642 Centennial although I own and carry the 638 Bodyguard. Went with the latter after reading an article by Massad Ayoob about the snubbies and his opinion that the Bodyguard gives you the option of a single-action shot if you should ever need it but still completely shrouds the hammer for pocket carry. Sounded logical to me. However, I still think the 642 looks better. :)

Well I'm sure some will disagree but my little Taurus 851 .38 spl Ultralite is as good a revolver as I've ever owned and that includes Smiths & Colts. Maybe its a freak but it locks up like a vault and more accurate than I can shoot.

Technically the hammer is exposed but just barely enough to work the piece single action as desired.

638 S&W

It shoots better than expected as well!

This is a video I did of my first test fire of my new 638, as I shot the first shots at 50 yards and 100 yards... It is a good little shooter without a doubt. Being able to still shoot single action while still protecting the hammer is a great combination! I like the 442 as well...

A couple years ago at a gun show I did a simple side by side (non firing) comparison of several S&W 640 vs several Taurus CIA pistols in .357 Mag.

The CIA's won hands down. Better fit, tighter actions and smoother triggers. Not what I expected, but it was plain as day.

I do marginally wish I had the CIA as opposed to the M605 with a hammer, a good gun in it's own right.

I wouldn't even think about trading for a j-frame

Good, cause you ain't gettin' mine!!! :D

I am glad you like your gun, as it gives you more confidence, which will make you shoot better... Good luck, keep your head down!

I have the older Model 38. Today's equivalent is the 638 except it takes +P. The shrouded hammer still allows firing single action.

A 2 inch SP101 hammerless (bobbed hammer) is a heavy gun compared to the LCR and the light weight SWs.... But for the recoil sensitive, the SP101 snub loaded with 38+p is a light recoiling easy-to-shoot option.
