Best cheap .22/.22 mag revolver

Just when I thought I had it figured out, killkenny has got me looking at the ruger 22/45, even though I wish it came in a .22 mag version. Where can you find them for $250 new? Now Im in the wrong forum...

You're probably not gonna find them at your LGS and big box stores for that but I see em priced for that at gun shows all the time. Even the upper end 22/45's with all the bells and whistles go for $275 - $325. Bought this for $323 thanksgiving weekend:

No matter if you go for bottom end or something like mine, 22/45's are the best value in handguns.

I hate to say it, but a used Ruger isn't much more than $300.00 around here. Normally I hate the "save a little more and get something else" line, but in this case it's true because the OP set the bar rather high at $300.00. I've bought a Uberti 22 S/A in that price range too.

If you think used, you open up a whole world of other options. Just since Christmas I've bought two used 22's for less than $200.00. One was a Ruger standard semi-auto, and the other a High-Standard Sentinel, 9 shot, D/A revolver. No, they're not convertables, but I personally have never seen much use for a 22 Magnun. I've owned several with a magnum cylinder, but have never fired a single round.

(They were not "beaters" either.)

I suppose if I had to pick one of the less expensive new ones, I'd go with the Rough Rider.

Another happy R.R. owner. I regretted getting rid of the Ruger convertible so long ago, wanted another similar gun without spending too much. Did some research and bought the R.R. Another good tool in the tool shed.

I have a rough rider. Hate it. Worst gun I've ever bought. Only gun I wish I hadn't. Reliably goes bang, but God only knows where the bullet ends up after that.

If you do buy one, get the adjustable sights (mine has very lopsided irons) and avoid the 3.5" barrel length as the front sight post is generally too short to zero the gun properly.

I would suggest skip the .22 Mag. In a handgun it does not offer any advantage over .22 lr that is is noticeable. I would get a used Ruger MKII or MKIII, and later get a rifle in .22 Mag.

Aside from performance, price is a big factor. .22 Mag cost way more to shoot.

Oh I had a RR it did what it was designed to do without any problems. I gifted it to my nephew. He still shoots it, and it still works just fine.

I hear ya cajun, I will definitely be looking at the used stuff before I go new. And let me know if you ever want your money back for that pretty little ruger there. Rifleman- I agree to an extent about that being an oxymoron but even though a poor man likes a colt just as much as a rich man that doesnt mean the poor man can have a safe full of em. Im trying to find the best product within a certain price range. I know what the best is, but Im for sure not gonna beat around through the woods with it or take it fishing.

Best cheap? Oxymoron.

Well, while "cheap" and "inexpensive" aren't the same thing, in the context he used it most everybody understood that he meant "inexpensive."

I've been in a financial position where I couldn't necessarly afford to buy "the best" so I had to settle for the "the best" I could afford. I wanted a Browning A5 when I was a youngster. I had to settle for a Sears/Roebuck 12 ga pump. It was a lot "cheaper" than the A5, but still dropped many a whitetail.

And let me know if you ever want your money back for that pretty little ruger there.

Naw. I appreciate the offer, but I think I'll hold onto that one. Shoot, I haven't even fired it yet. I need to correct that before too long.
