Best bulk .22 ammo?

I have numerous bulk boxes of .22 LR ammo and I need to pack one box in a bug out bag. Brands of concern are Federal, Winchester, and Remington.

I need to pick a single box and am wondering which of the three are the best. I don't have a load of experience to discern between the three. As of now I am leaning towards Federal.

Thanks in advance.

Any light-bullet stuff is junk IMO. Yeah, cheapskates swear by it often. Try real ammo. The only "bulk" I ever buy is Federal Auto-Match.

You need to make sure whatever you choose actually works in your guns. Problem with the bulk stuff is that this box may work fine but the next one won't.

I have some Wally World bulk boxed Remington and Federal but if I want to know it will go bang, I use Aguila.

The Fed and Rem ammo is used for others that go to shoot with me that really waste ammo. After testing and finding out how it performs (or doesn't) in my guns I don't shoot the stuff.

I used to use PMC but now I use Aguila. I have NEVER had a miss-fire with either in any of my guns.

It's gonna depend on what your gun likes best.

I gave up on .22 bulk packs a long time ago, so I couldn't find a single one that would work in all my .22s. I stick to strictly CCI mini-mags anymore as it does the best overall with all my .22s.

Bulk is bulk. Bulk rimfire is even worse. I would just shoot around 50-100 from each box and see which one performs best. Granted you just used 100 from each box in testing but you've still got 400 left which should keep you fed for well over a year in a BO type situation or able to defend yourself as long as could be needed.

The best way to do this is buy boxes this morning, test this afternoon, and buy more either this evening or the next day. You can almost guarantee the box bought that evening or the following day will be from the same production lot and perform just as the first box did.

Best I've used is Federal Automatch. It works well in all of my rifles, revolvers, pistols. You can find less expensive, but this stuff is very consistent and reliable in my experience.

CCI MiniMags in the plastic 100-round boxes seems to work well in any gun, and they have reliable primers. I'm not sure I've ever had a misfire with one.

Bulk is fine for plinking, popping some starlings ect. but not for a bug out use.

Buy the best you can afford, your life may depend on that ammo.

While I find it unlikely that any here are going to have to deal with a "bug out" situation, if it came to that then only the best will leave with me.

From the extensive testing I've done of many brands and different types within brands I'd go with the CCI Velocitor hollow point rounds. These are full 40gr. hollow points that give higher speed (1435 fps)than any other for that weight, so more impact to take game or protect yourself with.

My next suggestion would be the Remington Yellow Jacket hollow points. More explosive than the Velocitors for small game use, though also less penetration for self defense use.

Both these rounds have given good to very good accuracy in 4 different makes/models of .22 rifles I've fired them in.

While the Velocitors are expensive as .22's go, the Yellow Jackets are more reasonable if cost is a major factor for you.

I only use the bulk packs, where I live a box of 50 is $10, and a bulk pack is $40 for 500 ish.

They're absolutely fine for plinking and hunting, no different really than non bulk ammo.

I pretty much only use winchester 555 packs, I tried a federal 525 pack once and found that they didn't have the consistency of the winchesters, some shots where noticeably quieter and the winchester were a lot more accurate in both my 22lrs.

That's what I've found anyway.

+1 on the Minimag. Very reliable ammo, and the hard plastic boxes would be durable, and convenient for a bug out bag. If you want to keep it all together, just use some duct tape, or vinyl electrical tape to hold 4 or 6 100 round boxes together in a "brick".

I have stocked up progressively with CCI MiniMags in the plastic 100-round boxes. I have lots of it and found it worth the extra cost. And as stated works in most any 22 firearm. The bulk stuff is good for revolvers.

I shoot a lot of bulk 22 ammo in revolvers, semi auto pistols and semi auto rifles. Of the locally available bulk stuff, the only one that works in all of my guns without issue is the CCI Blazer. Other than the plated bullet I'm not sure if there is any difference in this and their MiniMag. I believe they are both the same velocity.

I need to pick a single box and am wondering which of the three are the best.
OP,
Out of the three brands you listed, I would go with Federal first, Winchester second. My 10/22 can't decipher between the Automatch and regular Federal bulk for squirrel & rabbit hunting.

CCI bulk wasn't mentioned in your list but that would also be a first rate choice.

I've been using the bulk packs from Federal copper plated 36 gr. for 20+ years now and seem to shoot in most of my 22s very well....For bulk 22 ammo my vote goes to Federal.

CCI Blazer for me. Plain Jane but accurate and reliable. 10,000 rounds for a tad over $300, it's priced right as well.

My guhs like the CCI standard velocity target rounds 40 gr round nose @ 1070 fps. Very accurate but perhaps not good for bug out situation.

My Marlin rifles absolutely love Remington Golden Bullets as far as shooting accuracy goes.

But I'll never buy another box of the stuff because I have an unacceptable dud rate with them, approaching 5%.

For bulk rimfire ammo I get equally fair results with Winchester or Federal.
