best budget gun's?

Armscor M206 - Quick Review

The best budget handgun that I've run across isn't a Hi-Point, CZ-82 (although a darn close 2nd), police trade S&W 10, Makarovs, P64, S&W Sigma, or Ruger P-Series. YES, I've owned and shot all of the preceding inexpensive guns.

The best NEW budget gun that comes with a warranty is the 6-shot Armscor M206 2" barrel revolver chambered in 38 Special. I kid you not. I bought it for the heck of it because it was so darn inexpensive. I got it for $205 out the door (shipping & transfer included).

For those not familiar with Armscor, it's the same company that makes the Rock Island Armory 1911 line.

The gun is a copy of the Colt Detective Special with the full lug, although the internals are closer to the J-Frame Colts. Mine came with a Parkerized finish and what I originally thought to be plastic grips. They turned out to be wood grips - finely finished wood grips! Surprised the heck out of me when I took 'em off to fit a set of rubber Pachmayr grips for Post 1971 Colt Detectives.

The snub shoots POA and I was doing about 3" groups in DA at about 10 yards off hand with WWB which is good for me with a snub. The manual didn't say the revolver was +P rated, however. The trigger is surprisingly smooth for such an inexpensive gun. As smooth as any of my S&Ws and definitely smoother than my Tauruses. DA trigger breaks at 12.5 lb and SA is about 5 lb. Recoil is typical of snubs. Snappy even with target loads. Lock & timing were perfect with very little play and no end-shake. The chambers were a little tight, but a little oil in them had the cases ejecting easily.

I was so impressed with the snub that I have the M200 on order. That one has the 4" half lug barrel and comes with rubber grips. I can't wait to put that one through its paces.

ROSSI MODEL 68 .....38spl 5 shot with 2" or 3" barrels. The older guns are heavier all steel frame. Real nice gun for the money.
Pre-owned are approx $150.-225. on gun auction sites. Based on condition.

go with savage

savage .22's are very accurate and cheap, i got the cheapest one i could find (130.00) used winchester super X jacketed bullets and got penny sized groups at 40 yards and that was just a stock mark II without the accu-trigger or anything special (except a scope), savage makes great little .22's for the price. Only down side is the iron sights aren't the best and you will have to buy certain base mounts and possibly scope rings for it if you intend on attaching a scope. Their .17 hmrs are deathly accurate too, at 40 yards with the right ammo those bullets will be going into the same hole every time.
