Best 9mm under $500

Fortunately, they have a bunch in stock.

That... is an unreal deal. I paid $460 for mine I believe and I would gladly put it up against guns that cost near double that. Actually I did when I bought it. I set a limit of $800. Almost bought a P229 but liked the P-07 better.

Go look at the used side of the counter and see what you see. I almost never buy a new gun and $500.00 goes a lot further at the used counter.

In my experience a lot more guns get sold or traded because someone just wanted something different, or needed quick cash than because the owner had some kind of trouble with them.

I've got a CZ P07 Duty and a Ruger SR9c, both were way under $500 for me as I got them used from my local gun shop and both are fantastic guns for what they are in my opinion. Some people rave about the Sr9's trigger being one of the best striker fired in its price range, and I can vouch for that as I've had it for awhile and have tried some other striker fired pistols whose triggers I really didn't like. I only got the P07 a few weeks ago, but its an awesome gun with a good trigger too. Also as people have mentioned there are a lot of quality upgrades available for CZ's, as there are for many guns. Hopefully you can get your hands on a few to try at a range. I'd also recommend the Sig 2022, FN FNX/FNS depending on preference. I'm not a huge Glock fan, but there are surely plenty of reliable offerings from them in your price range

From what I own or have extensive experience shooting.

SIG SP2022 9MM
Glock 19 Gen 3
Walther P99 AS 9MM
Walther PPS 9MM

One that you may be able to find at $500 especially without night sights. I have not had as much experience with but by all accounts another terrific pistol.

SIG P320

I'm going to have to vote Glock 19 Gen 3 at $499 plus tax.
It's the best all around pistol ever made for defensive purposes at any price.
It's very accurate, compact, dehorned, light weight, and reliable.

The sole negative is the soft plastic sights tend to round off quickly in a holster, but I put quality night sights, like Trijicon's, on most guns anyway.

Sorry, but "best" is such a massively ambiguous term..... it makes the question almost meaningless. The only information provided is that it be "less than $500". Does that mean $500, out the door.....or $500 before tax.....???

What do you mean by "best" ? Most reliable ? Most accurate ? Most user friendly ergonomics ? Easiest to maintain ? Greatest parts availability ? Relative expense of parts and magazines, etc. ? Hammer or striker fired ? Etc., etc., etc.

These are all questions important to consider.....and not the only ones. In the end, it comes down to personnal preference anyway. There is NO such thing as one "best" model.....only the one that might be "best" for you.

So, sorry, but in the absence of further coherent information to qualify what you are looking for, I decline to provide any suggestion.

For a striker fired pistol, the Ruger SR9c has been excellent for me. It has a very nice trigger, believe it is around the $450 range right now.

I'm a huge fan of the CZs now, though. I just love the style and the DA/SA. As others have mentioned, you can check out Cajun Gun Works, who specialize in CZs and their clones. You can do a full custom package or just some new springs to really make a difference. I've shot mine stock, though, and they are just fine out of the box.

Don't count out the Tristar pistols by Canik55, which are basically CZ clones. Cajun Gun Works makes plenty of custom parts for those as well. Academy carries them regularly, and most models are available at or just under $400 on Budsgunshop. The Tristar T-120 is next on my list. Very solid gun for $399.

I bought my sister a Walther PPQ for just over $500 and she loves it! That was on Gun Broker so you will need to add shipping and a FFL transfer fee to that. For under $500, Glocks or CZ's are hard to beat.

If CC is an intended use of this pistol, then I highly recommend the Shield, as it hides very well, and does everything else with equal aplomb.

Shields are often on sale around my area for less then $350, which leaves plenty for your practice ammo budget.

Ok guys, thanks for all the recommendations, but I happened across a great deal today. A 9mm stoeger cougar for $286. With the remainder I will buy a holster and annual range pass!

Outstanding deal! I have 3 , 2 9's & the 45. I have not a single problem with any of them. Very soft recoil, accurate & super reliable. They like a tad more lube than most.

Little tidbit of info, Beretta owns Stoeger, the Stoeger Cougers are built on the same machinery that the Beretta Cougars were. They're the same gun. Enjoy
