Best .357 carry ammo? (Snubbie)

I found some of the elusive Winchester silver tips today!!!!!
(Too bad all they had were two boxes of them in .380 auto... :(

I bought some .45 Colt silver tips a couple months ago. They were pretty pricey. About $32 I think for a box of 20.

I carry a S&W360sc (scandium/titanium 11oz .357 snubby) for a BUG, and I use Federal 158gr JHP HiShoks (C357E) (NOT HydraShoks!) in it. I cronoed them at about 1100 ft/s out of that 1-7/8" barrel. I chose them because they seemed to burn essentially all of the powder before the bullet even left the case ... ideal for a short barrel, and very little flash and blast ... and they penetrated and expanded well. They also were one of the few cartridges I tested that never showed any "bullet-pull". They are not full spec by today's standards, although they were then, I think. I wouldn't want anything hotter ... those are already VERY painful to shoot.

What about good ole 38 special wadcutters? A lot of folks say wadcutters are the best home defense loads

Carry the ammo you can shoot the best. Nice round groups , on target and quickly. In a defense situation only hits count, misses get you killed.
There is no MAGIC BULLET .

I carry 148 gr. target wadcutters. Why? Because I can put 5 rounds , real quickly, into a palm sized group and they are extremely accurate when shooting slow fire.

11 oz. huh? Did they make those with a hammerless option?
(S&w 360sc)

The S&W360sc is no longer in production. It's closest currently-manufactured equivalent (mostly just cosmetic differences) is the 360PD. The 340PD (I think that's the number) is the same as the 360PD, except in hammerless DOA. (Oddly, S&W currently manufactures a couple of other models containing the "360" number, and they are quite different from the 360sc and 360PD: one is .38 Special (+P) only, and the other is .357mag, but with a steel cylinder.)

I know that many people recommend hammerless for SD pocket carry, but I've always been glad that I got the exposed-hammer SA/DA version ... I VASTLY prefer shooting the 360sc single action (it has a 2-3/4 lb trigger, with no trigger job), and I can draw it with my thumb over the hammer, without any snagging.

My load of choice is the Remington 125 grain HTP (high terminal performance). Out of my 2 1/2" 66 it chronographs at 1270 +/-. Loud? yes it is. Bucks a bit but it is controllable. I may only get one shot (literally) at stopping someone before they harm me or my family thus I tend to follow Teddy Roosevelt's line of thought:

"Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft."

I bought a Ruger SP101 for my wife awhile back since she proclaims herself a "wheelgun girl". :D She loves the gun and calls it "Henry". She shoots whatever is put it in it, but definitely has weak wrists. She practices with 38 and 38 +P all of the time. What I keep it loaded with is CorBon 140gr. .357Mag. She shoots at least a cylinder full each time she shoots with me.

I just bought some Underwood 125gr JHP that is quite stout. It moves at 1700fps out of a 6" barrel, and 1500fps out of a 3" barrel. How much less do you think the projectile would be moving out of a 2 1/4" barrel? Keep in mind as well, Underwood stuff is usually well over their advertised velocity. Just curious as to what 3/4" of barrel length would do.

In my Taurus® Mdl 617SS2 7 shot 2¼" barrel 357 Magnum I achieve the best accuracy with the Fiocchi® 357 Magnum 158gr w/the Hornady® XTP® Bullet; load #357XTP.

I take back my original post recommending Hornaday 125gr 357mag, I went out today and I was terrible, averaged 2 rounds in the 8"cirlce out of 5 rounds. I am going back to 38spl +p.
