Best .243 cartridge

Don't worry kirpi97, if you hang around here long enough you'll notice that these signature lines are often "borrowed" and passed around. The Duke was right about this quote. We're seeing a lot of collective stupidity these days out in California so I'm sure he'd have a little bit more to say if he was still around.:D

Jack O'Connor is another one I wish was still around as I'm sure he would have some bullet wisdom to impart here. There are a lot of new styles of bonded bullet and solid copper bullets et cetera, which might make a difference in hunting big game with the .243. But I think he'd still agree the exposed lead soft points developed in the 1940's and 50's are both sufficient and excellent for whitetails.

Deerhunter264, do me a favor, okay? Write out your posts in full text, and review before hitting the "Submit" button.

Okay: There are numerous websites with reloading data. I personally prefer hardcopy reloading manuals because of all the additional information about each cartridge, plus the data on exterior ballistics and other information. My preferred book is that of Sierra, although I have several others as well.

The problem for loads from here at the website is that folks have worked up a pet load that's good in their rifle, but might not really do well in yours. You're just going to have to do your own homework...

Here is a hint about the 243. In a dicent rifle, It will shoot just about every normal bullet and loading you can come up with, from Light varment loads around 60 grns and deer loads around 100 grns. Just load a few and see what shoots best in your rifle.

Didn't see anyone mention the new Winchester Supreme Elite XP3 bullets and the Supreme Ballistic Silvertips. Although they are quite pricy, these factory jewels make you wonder why you bother handloading. Not only that, but they are as beautiful to look at as they are to shoot....

If you shoot a lot of paper, then handload. If you just need a reliable accurate bullet that costs a tiny fraction of your deer hunt that you can count on to bring home the meat, try the Winchesters.

CAUTION: The following post includes loading data beyond currently published maximums for this cartridge. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Neither the writer, The Firing Line, nor the staff of TFL assume any liability for any damage or injury resulting from use of this information.

There is no accubond for 6mm and I would like to see a 95 gr interbond before recommending them so 95 Gr. Partition would be your best bet.

95 gr bullet
IMR 7828
Primer WLR
start Load 41.5 gr for 2875 fps
Max load 45.5 gr for 3130 fps

Rem. SPS, Nikon Buckmaster 3X9X40 with Wallyworld Winchester 100 gr. Most will stay inside of 2" @ 200 yds. at the range. Guess that I was lucky on a lot of fronts. The crosshairs are also too thick.

105 AMAX @ 1:10 twist anyone?

.243 Xbolt - 1:10 twist, thanks for posting. Not in my documentaton Has anyone tried the 105 AMAX or 115 Berger VLD in the Xbolt or other 1:10 twist 243 Win? Wondering if the twist is fast enough to stabilize them. It is agreed all around that the 100s shoot fine at that twist rate.
