I am going through this drill with a new Kidd conversion and have already shot 27 different ammos with 10 groups each.
Some were great, some were good and some were not so good.
I have another 16 ammos waiting for the next range session.
I have done this testing with 5 other rimfire rifles (note the match with my user name), and find that there were a lot of similarities and a couple of surprises on favorites so far.
So far, the leader in the clubhouse for this Kidd conversion is Lapua Center-X with an overall average of 0.336, with Wolf Match Target, Wolf Match Extra and Remington Eley Target Rifle basically tied at 0.386 through 0.388.
That means that I can shot the cheaper Wolf Match Target and not lose any accuracy.
Fiocchi Exacta Super Match SM320 came in 5th with 0.436 and SK Standard Plus and Federal Premium 719 tied for 6th with 0.485. Note that the supposedly identical SK Standard Plus shot a lot worse than Wolf Match Target - that is the same result that I got with the other 5 rifles. So much for them being identical. Maybe I am always unlucky with the lot I get with SK.
Federal Premium Gold Match wasn't even close to a favorite in this particular rifle.
No mis-feeds from any of the ammo and all but 4 rounds went bang like they were supposed to.
The only problem I had in firing 1400 rounds was 4 Failure to Fires from CCI Standard Velocity ammo. That was the only ammo that had any problem. I reloaded the rounds and they all fired on the second pass. I suspect that the primer paste wasn't spread evenly around the rim. I was surprised since I have never had this problem with CCI before. The 100 rounds of Mini-Mags and Blazer all went bang as expected and had no problems other than filling the 25 and 26th places on the accuracy list.
Dead last so far goes to Peters and I doubt that will change when I shoot the next 16 ammo types.
