Basically all my life I been using Remington .22LR ammo when it came to shooting .22LR'S and found the stuff to be very accurate and never had any trouble at all of any guns jamming. Id just like to go a step higher and try something else that might be better just to see if im missing anything thats good. Also another reason being is I just bought a brand new Marlin 60 a few weeks ago and I never fired it yet. Thanks:cool:

Bullethole1:

For pure accuracy try the Federal match it is super accurate. If you don't want the expense of match ammo try the others brands availabel: you'll find at least one that likes your rifle likes.

Thanks,I heard alot about how good Federal Match is,Im going to try em out. I dont really care about spending anything less than $50 for a 500RD box:eek:

My Sig .22 kit has had frequent FTF's with the Remington, Winchester, and Federal value packs (500-555 rounds for $15). I've NEVER had an issue with CCI Mini Mags (100 rounds for $6).

Dangit, I swore I'd stay away from these threads.

Bullethole- There's a funny thing about .22 ammo. Nobody can tell you what's best but you. All .22 firearms act differently with different ammo. What works the best in my Model 60 may be totally unsuitable in yours even if they were consecutive serial numbers and crib mates. My Model 60 has a thing for CCI Small Game lhp's, as does one of my Stevens, but my other Stevens and Remington no like-ums the stuff at all.

Buy, or swap for several different types and go with the one that functions best and groups on paper the best. Also, don't overlook the plain lead rounds like the CCI's, Fed Match, Wolf/SSK and several others. They are clean, lubed, and don't leave copper on your lands/grooves.

Go to all of your local stores and buy one box of each different kind they have. Do the same online at Midway USA, Cabella's, and all those others. Order one box of each. Then make up some paper targets. Something like 3 or 4 or 5 dots per page and compare the groups to see what is tight and which brands are too scattered. Do this at multiple distances such as 25, 50, 75, 100 yards. In my case I use 40, 60, 77, and 100 meters. It's a good project and may take multiple visits to the range. To answer your question, I can tell you I've done this scenario many times over, and one brand seems to better than many in quite a few cases. The Aguila Standard and the Aguila High Velocities have a habit of being among the very best in a lot of cases. Also true that SKS Standard Plus works well for me. We don't shoot the same guns. I don't use my Marlin for matches for this reason: CCI Standard velocity is a one-hole-wonder for chickens and pigs, but then the groups spread too much to use for turkeys and rams. What do I do with all the brands that don't work well? I shoot them up in my revolver plinking at much closer distances.

SteelChickenShooter nailed it. Every rim fire rifle well shoot best with something different. What works for me may not work for you. My particular rim fire target rifle likes Fiocchi and Aguila, another prefers CCI. YMMV;)

Remington is possibly the worst .22 ammo you can find anywhere. Once you start using better ammo you will be amazed at how good a .22 can actually be.

Can't go wrong with CCI or even Federal. It's also readily available at your local Walmart.

I have a bunch of different kinds. If you're using a semi-auto, the high-velocity stuff is probably the best choice. If you're shooting a bolt action or lever-gun, you can stck with standard velocity or even sub-sonic.

I dont know, I was shooting birds heads off at 20 yards with my 60 with remington ammo with a gun rest, but i want some ammo that i can do that at 100 yards ;)

I always used Remington Yellow Jackets with good success. I recently added an Adam & Bennet to a Ruger 10/22 and the Yellow Jackets did poorly. They don't recommend CCI stingers in the Adam & Bennet so I got a bulk box of the cheap Winchesters and they did pretty good. I do have to agree with those who say to try different brands. Its just like matching any other rifle with factory ammo. They all perform differently and it just takes time and money to find the "one".

Older guns = CCI Standard Velocity
New gun = CCI Standard Velocity
Hunting = CCI Subsonic HP's or Velocitor

They cost a bit more but I believe it is worth the "bang" everytime.

I definitely have to say I agree wth buying a small box of many different ammo ( its cheap it won' kill u ) and try em because ammo work VERY different in each different rimfire rifle. Even great rfles and great ammo may not like each other so try em out.

So I will say that like many other people I shoot plenty of Federal Bulk which is their Bulk Value Pack it is I THINK 36? gr hollow points - 525 rounds for max $20 as low as $15 on sale. Basically it is the best value for dollar the rimfire deals u can get ! All my 22s the bolt action, the autoloader, and the AR , they all shoot this real good real accurate.

ANYTHING CCI is good for me. Blazer is my Favorite cheaper ammo and extremely reliable a d potent for the money. MiniMags are my favorite Favorite premium ammo - they got 36 gr JHP AND 40 gr FMJ type rounds - .07 a round vs.03 for Fed Bulk.

Cci also makes a ton of special application rimfires - from high velocity hyper velocity slow velocity subsonics and different tips for different engagement purposes.

Keep ur eye on Federal AutoMatch - a target " tactical " ammo designed for AR semi auto style rifles. 325 rounds of lead rounded nose rounds for about 15 and it shoots real Ccurate real reliable. Real good value for dollar for me in my 15-22 and my 597. My Mark II GXP bolt action shoots verything but grts better accursye with better ammo.

Keep in mind that a lot of the Match Cartridges noted for accuracy have slower velocities. They shoot great in bolt actions but can sometimes be finicky in autos.

I'll second those who said to try out different 22 ammo in your rim fire. I like CCI standard because it goes bang every time and shoots fairly well in my Smith 41. I tried the Fed bulk match in my new to me Winny 61 and didn't like the results. I was hoping it would shoot it well. So CCI Standsad it is. No wonder why I buy it by the Case.

"I dont know, I was shooting birds heads off at 20 yards with my 60 with remington ammo with a gun rest, but i want some ammo that i can do that at 100 yards"

A bird's head at 20 yards with a rifle is no problem even with junk ammo like Remington and a rifle like a Marlin 60. You can do that with a good .22 pistol.

If you want good 100 yard ammo the first thing you look for is consistent powder charges. Remington and some other cheap bulk pack ammo does not have that. The rounds will shoot groups at 100 yards with the weak rounds falling low.

Also ALL serious smallbore shooters use subsonic ammo on the 100 yard line. No .22 rimfire ammo that is designed for serious target work is supersonic.
