Beretta Question...

If it's truly a G model, the lever won't stay in the 'Safe' position.

After decocking, the lever springs back to the 'Fire' position.

The lever actually performs exactly the same function regardless of the model. It's just that the G model lever won't stay down.

RB6,

I'd give the Elite versions a look also (92G). They have a slide mounted decocker, but no manual safety feature. When you decock the weapon, the lever springs back to its original position.

The triggers on them are great, and mine has proven to be much more accurate than I am, and 100% reliable.

Take a look at them.

One of the nicest DAO pistols I ever fired was an aquaintance's Beretta 92 after an IDPA match.

Yet, I don't like DAO. If only Beretta would bring this back, I'd own a new brand B...

Actually I've decided to put the Beretta on my "want but wait" list. I plan on trying to pick up a CZ 75B and a CZ 75B SA first before the prices jump. I just don't see the low prices on CZ's lasting very much longer due to the quality/accuracy and the growing demand/respect they are getting. The Beretta prices might jump a little but I don't see them taking an extreme jump. The CZ's will most likely take a $75 to $100 jump over the next couple years, in my opinion.

I have been shooting primarily 45acp since Jan. Last Sunday, I broke out my Beretta and 200 rounds. Had a blast...great shooter. Safety is easy to engage and disengage & accuracy is very good.
She's back in my regular rotation again.
If it's on your wait list, wait until they go on sale. I've seen them one sale quite often this year at pretty good prices.

Gentlemen: A very interesting thread. I'm learning a lot about the Beretta line. One question: what is the difference between the Elite I and II series? Thank you!

RB6, FWIW, back in '93-'94 when I was in the ARMY in Germany (703rd MSB 3rdID) you could pick up a CZ75 anytime for only about $200. Can't believe I couldn't get one though!

Prof,

I'll see if I can take a good stab at it (in no certain order):

Sights: Elite II has Novak low mount no snag sights, Elite (I) has regular Beretta 92 series sights.

Slide: Elite II has a stainless slide, Elite (I) has a bruniton finish slide.

Barrel: Elite II has a stainless barrel with a target crown, Elite (I) has a standard barrel (chrome lined?).

Front and Backstrap: Elite II has a serrated/checkered front and backstrap, Elite (I) has "vertical grooves" on front and backstrap (I think). Both have radiused backstraps where the web of the hand is positioned on the grip (I've heard that this is now standard on all 92/96 versions??). Makes the big gun a little more forgiving for those with small hands/short fingers.

I think that about sums it up. I may have missed something. I'm sure someone will let me know if I did. :p

Shake: Thanks for the information! I was especially interested to hear about the radiused backstrap as I have short fingers and have found the 92FS a bit large. The Elite II sounds like something I might want to purchase.

Prof,

You're welcome.

I would be tickled with either of the Elite series. I lucked out and got a great deal on the Elite II. I think it might be the best looking gun I own.

One of the things I forgot was that the trigger on the Elite IIs I've handled have been much better than the Elites. People always seem to complain about the Beretta triggers, but it is hard to complain about the Elite II's trigger. Sure, it still isn't comparable to a 1911 race gun, but it is very, very functional.

Shake forgot a few things re: the difference between Elite and Elite II.

The Elite DOES have a stainless barrel, but shortened to be flush w/ the slide.
The Elite II has a shorter stainless barrel, but it's crowned.

The Elite II also has a mainspring from the "D" models, so the DA pull is lighter. The Elite (I) has the regular FS spring.

rvb,

I knew I'd forget at least one thing. Forgot about the barrel being stainless on the Elite too. Thanks for the correction.
