Beretta M9 compact

Steve from WC called me right before noon today about one of my guns, I told him I had given his name to someone about having some work done. He said he hadn't heard from anyone yet...
He isn't in the office on Friday's, FYI.

Red, I haven't decided on everything I want done to the gun yet. Also I am trying to sell a couple to raise some $$$$. I'll probably contact them later this week or early next. Thanks for letting me know he won't be in Friday.

Volk, I don't think there is any difference in Italian made or American made. Any difference in negligible in my untrained opinion. I have one of each. My full size is Italian and my compact is from Maryland. Both are really nice although I did notice some tooling marks on the inside of my compact slide.

One other thing, Red. Are they still super busy? I watched a Yankee marshal video last night and he said they were swamped and hard to get ahold of.

I assume you have considered the ramifications of modifying and eliminating a manufacturers safety item and are comfortable with that

Wilson Combat is comfortable with doing it for their customers. It's listed as a standard upgrade.

Beretta even offers it to large customers.

Not that big of a deal.

Eazy,
I call Steve and usually get him with no problem. The closer you call to 0800 it seems the less call volume. But having his direct ext makes it easy and not an eternal hold.
As for time in for work done, Steve can give you the best estimate. For something like that, I wouldn't think a long turn around time.

Thanks redhologram. I think I'll call tomorrow I think I only need $50 for a deposit. Probably try to shoot it once more in stock configuration so I'll have before and after targets. I'm super excited. Might have the frame black anodized, turn it into a two tone job.

Just giving my honest opinion. I own several Berettas, HK's, Sig's, Ruger's, Colt, Browning, etc, but I gravitate to my CZ's for real use. They just seem to fit me the best. The others are also excellent, and all good choices.

Call me a fanboy, I don't care, but in 50 years of shooting, that is my experience. How long have you been shooting?

This thread was specifically about a Beretta.

You CZ fanboys hijacked it and tried to turn it into a CZ's better than Beretta thread.

Since you two hijacked it, already...

50 years of shooting, and you still haven't learned that the Glock 19 is a better carry gun than anything CZ, HK, Sig, Ruger, Browning, etc (or whatever else you mentioned) has ever made.

It's okay. Some people are just slower learners than others.

Eazyeach,

I was just trying to give you my opinion on the CZ because it fits the hand so well & shoots even better. The full size CZ,75BD (decocker) is a easy gun to carry. I do carry it myself it carry's better then my Sig,226 in 40s&w. I did look at the Beretta M9/92 but it was to me anyway a big gun for a 9mm. I do have a Beretta 85F (380ACP) that I got for the wife. I call it the baby Beretta. It is one fine gun for sure & I also like shooting it. I even carried it from time to time. This one is made in Italy & I can tell you that it is very well made. I did think of adding a Beretta M9 because I like the 85F so much. Just for range shooting. I like the link it has to the German P-38. Question for you? Do you think the Beretta's made in Italy are made better then the Beretta's made in the USA? Thanks.

The thread is about a compact. It's smaller than the guns you mentioned.

Did you read the opening post, or just see the word Beretta, and decide you wanted to say CZ's better?

As far as CZ's go, Tanfoglio makes a better "CZ" than CZ.

Have you considered getting rid of your CZ, and getting a Tanfoglio, with their better factory triggers and resets?

OK T4terrific. First off I really don't think of myself of a CZ "fanboy". Yes I like CZ's but I like a lot of other guns also. And if you read my post I did mention the P-01 as well and that is a compact gun. I happen to really like the Beretta so it was not a "CZ is better then Beretta" thing. I was just giving my opinion to maybe save him a lot of money on sending the Beretta in for a lot of work that cost big bucks. Its just an opinion. And as far as Glock being "better then CZ,HK,SIG,RUGER,BROWNING,etc LOL. Keep drinking that kool-aid. Plastic junk! I guess a steel/alloy frame gun is to heavy for you? I guess you follow like a sheep on the Glock, like so many fools that get one believing that its the best thing like slice bread? LOL. Tanfoglio being a better cz then cz. Nice try.Just a cheep copy with the cracking frames with a very bad finish that peels off. One more thing why the hell did this have to go into a posting war?:( Really. I think you are the slow learner. You just don't know how to make friends & be nice give opinions even if you do not agree. After all we are all firearm enthusiast are we not? I happen to like all the opinions I get from here even if I don't agree with them or I do. I just think its dumb ass to rag on someone because you have a different opinion then them. So grow up & drink that Kool-aid.:)

So you are turning it into a Glock fanboy thread. Nice. Must be great to be able to think outside the box.

That sounds like a good idea and plan Eazy.
I'm having some ArmorTuff coating done to both of mine. Having the frame and barrel done in burnt bronze and leaving the rest black. My WC AR9 is burnt bronze and black and I have 4 of the Davidson's Glock's that are the Burnt Bronze, 17, 19, 26, 43 (just for looks), I also have the same ones in black that I carry and shoot. I call burnt bronze the girl version of FDE). :)

One thing I do know, these are your guns. Do what you want with them (modification wise), buy what you want and don't worry about what anyone else says or thinks.
I may own more of a specific manufacturer than another (40 Sigs) but that doesn't mean I think everyone else should as well. I also own plenty of other brands and find merits in all of them.

Eazy, it sounds like you are going with Wilson Combat, and I am sure you will be happy with that. But I will still offer some general advice about working on carry guns.

I always recommend that work on carry guns should be done by experienced gunsmiths. Going to a famous expert like WC is even better. One reason for this advice is the legal concerns about using a modified gun for defense. If the work is done by an expert, then it is less likely that you could be accused of carrying an unsafe weapon.

But the bigger concern for me is that "simple" gunsmithing is not always as easy as it looks. In the worst case, a gun may seem fine, but be prone to an occasional malfunction. I do not disagree with people who said that some of what you want done could be done at home. But no one should do their first gunsmithing project on a carry gun.

Working on guns can be fun. But anyone interested in these projects should start with some modifications on guns used for recreation. Then after gaining some experience, they can decide what other projects are within their skill level. And even then, having a carry gun that is certified safe and reliable by a professional gunsmith may be a good choice.

Your choice to have work done by Wilson Combat will be a good decision.

Eazy,

I like the short reach trigger. Have one on the Compact and my 92A1. They take all of 10 minutes to install, less than that if you get the trigger return spring right on the first try. :D

Lucky Gunner's Chris Baker has some great videos and reviews on the Wilson modifications. See the "Wilson Combat Beretta Compact Carry" here:
http://www.luckygunner.com/lounge/

I'm personally in the middle of choosing between a M9A1 compact and a PX4 storm compact. The PX4 has user replaceable sights, is lighter, and a little smaller, so it's likely the direction I'll go. He also has two very good reviews for the PX4 compact carry.

Nothing I recommended involved anything other than changing parts. If you can build an AR, you can do this. If you own a Beretta you should have the skills to replace all these parts anyway since the springs I spoke of all have a round count lifespan.

The parts are all sold as carry packages by Wilson. Therefore you are not installing something questionable in your pistol. I personally have an issue paying labor at their rate plus shipping for them to install parts that I can do in a few minutes time. YMMV.

I just filled out the online form. Picked out sights , decocker only conversion, round trigger guard, action work, short trigger, gray tuff coat frame and a couple other things that I've already forgotten. WC dirty olive grips. Going to call Steve In the morning. Thanks for all the advice and thank you for the contact info redhologram.

Eazyreach, are you saying the trigger guard will get rounded off? If so, why?

Well, there is always good looks, but I can't see that changing from squarish to roundish will make it fit your hand any better.

Just curious and it is fine to want what you want. As my lady friend says "We should strive to be eccentric."
