Beretta Leaving Maryland

I just read on Facebook that Beretta is closing a Maryland factory. It threatened this if MD passed legislation it was considering. They passed it and Beretta is leaving. I say more power to them that they are able to do it. The same article said Colt is leaving CT. I think Marlin already did.

I like this. States attack the 2nd Amendment and lose the economic benefits it brings to them. Beretta meant about 400 jobs or more and huge tax revenues to MD. Nice going MD.:D

I am glad Beretta is leaving Maryland. I think Remington should also close its factory in upstate N.Y., Smith & Wesson should move out of Mass., Ruger out of CT. and so on with all the states that threaten the 2nd amendment.

I think they said they would keep some things in Maryland.
There are contractual obligations to keep supply and support for the M9 pistols steady. Any plan to move would have to take that into consideration.

In Magpul's case, the move would interrupt business but would not run the risk of violating quotas and contracts. Beretta has different considerations.

I do not understand why any firearms manufacturer would want to stay in states bent on legislating them out of business.

I agree. It's amazing to think how much clout the firearms industry would have in shaping state laws if they actually decided to take a stand.

As it is now, some casual gun owners don't mind voting for anti-gun politicians because they can still get some guns in their state. But can you imagine what would happen if all gun and gun-related companies moved out of states that are hostile to the Second Amendment? Can you imagine what would happen if gun companies completely stopped making guns specifically for states like California? Can you imagine what would happen if big companies like Glock stopped selling guns to any law enforcement agancy in a state that bans their product for civilian purchase like Massachusetts? Can you imagine what would happen if companies stopped making special low-capacity mags for specific states?

Companies want to make money, and that's understandable. But if we, as the consumers, start pushing companies to stop catering to states with anti-Second Amendment laws, more people in those states might start voting out some of their anti-gun politicians.

New England + West Coast & Colorado

Colorado is not lost.

I am planning on making my career there and have a lot of contacts there. The uproar in the gun community has been very strong and I don't those the new laws will withstand the test of time.

I have hope for my mountain west neighbor-state :)

These are interesting discussions, having looked at places to move to NOT!

We decided to stay in Florida.

Well, I worry about Oregon

I am convinced that if CA ran lemming-like off a cliff Oregon would be running off right behind them. I am looking at other states to move to or get a second home, just to be sure I am not a sitting duck like folks in CT, MA, NY, CA, MD. Some states are making it illegal to enforce any federal laws. That appeals to me. I am disappointed in CO as it was one of my favorite states. :(

That is correct.

I caution folks against area bashing, esp. if you are ignorant of the situation in these states (as seen above and commented on by Salmoneye).

Also, in the 'so-called' bad states - there are folks fighting for the RKBA who deserve respect.

So can the general state hate comments.

What I take from this is it is mostly "talk" at this point. Moving a large business is an expensive proposition. We'll see what develops.

Good states, bad states.... first thing on my mind is a good job. Then I look at the politics.

The linked article doesn't say Beretta is leaving, just considering leaving and where their next investments will be. Sounds more like a plea to begin the "tax break/support race" than a call that they are leaving.
