For what it's worth
For what it is worth, I own a couple of Berettas, one since about 1987 or so. The other is the new Vertec model that I swapped off a Glock for. Over the years I have owned a couple of others all model 92's and have shot and handld a lot more.
They are as accurate and reliable as long barrelled revolvers. The only semi-autos I have ever fired that could match the Beretta 92 series are the 1911, in my experience and I have shot about everything. Some CZ-75's are close though.
Only experienced one jam in all that time, it was with a mag that had bent feed lips. Beretta replaced it no charge, no hassles. Never had another jam in over a decade of shooting.
Finish? Well, mine hasnt rusted yet, but I do care for it. The locking blocks tend to get the finish worn off them though over the years. If that bothers you they make a mighty fine stainless version. Generally the Itallian Berettas have better finishes and actions.
Durability? A buddy of mine is a cop who was issued his Beretta 92-F back around 1986 or so, and he still shoots it frequently. Now, it is almost as loose and wobbly as my old Smith 645 was when it was brand new.
If the large handle bugs you check out the new Vertec model that has a narrower grip and profile similar to a 1911.
In my opinion it is the best DA on the market, period. I worked at a gunshop by the way and the only problem we ever had with a Beretta was one model that had finish wear on the exposed barrell. I could tell you horror stories about other makes and models of guns, the big boys, by the way.
