Beretta 92S Italian Police!

The two new ones that I kept were a great buy and should remain " like new" because I just cannot warm up to the 92 package. The guns are beautifully made, shoot very accurately, hold a jillion rounds but I cannot get comfortable firing a 92 although many others will disagree.
The Beretta 84 BB from Aim was, until I received it, an unfired pistol (380) and is a pleasure to shoot although a bit large for the caliber. One could really defend life and home with that pistol.
"a pleasure to shoot although a bit large for the caliber" should be read as "a pleasure to shoot BECAUSE a bit large for the caliber".

Nowadays, everybody wants a pistol small enough to fit in your wallet, but in a caliber large enough to hunt bear and moose. The problem is, guns like that SUCK to shoot, the recoil is nasty. I haven't shot a Beretta 80 series, but I assume that like the CZ 82, the size/caliber ratio is proportionally correct to absorb the recoil. Beretta 92s, CZ 75s, Sig P226s, etc- they are "big" for 9x19, which means they are very comfortable to shoot.

You drop down a caliber size to 380 or 9x18, you can shrink the gun to "a reasonable size" to carry etc, and get the same level of comfort.
I went to the range the other day and shot some 9x18 pistols, and the CZ 82 is basically just above the boundaries of comfort. My PA 63 and P 64 aren't THAT much smaller, but the difference is enough that the caliber went from pleasant to a bit uncomfortable.

Sarco has magazines labelled as compatible for the Taurus 92.

They have metal bases, and they have the notch in the correct place for the Beretta 92S. I believe they were something like $15 apiece, and I had a coupon code for a bit off, and free shipping (they do this around most holidays).
Thanks for that.

I ended up ordering four magazines, three stocks, six barrels/blanks, and half of a rifle.
Self control. I need to find some.

Well I found a place that is selling these for $279 this week only and with a $10 hand select fee. Oh man!! My gun funds have been spent for the month, but that's a great deal!

Should I get another?

When I find something I really like I often buy more then 1.

If you're really happy with your 92s then get another, I give you permission :D
If you need more rationalization it's cheaper then the first one so if you don't buy it it's like you're loosing money. that one usually works for me :p

Scoobysnacker, No I meant what I wrote, I have much smaller 9mm pistols that are just as easy to shoot as the 92 so the mass is contributing to controllability but there are many other factors that can also be met in a smaller and lighter package.
I think the fat grip is the real reason I do not shine on to The 92, I am shooting a S&W 2.0 with the small grip insert and like it a lot.

Model12 Not sure how you like the stock grips but i put these on my 92 guns
They wrap the enitre grip with rubber.

they feel good to me but do add bulk to a already large grip.

They do not make "S" model grips anymore so only way to get them is used or new old stock off GB or Ebay.

Use to be plentiful but since the 92s import I noticed stock drying up.
No thanks, those are quite ugly. :)

Just thought I'd let ya know.
Pachymayr doesn't make the 92S grips anymore and since the imports they've gotten scarce on the auction sites.

They look better once they're on the gun. although the older signature line as far back as the S seem to lack the lion medallion but *shrugs*

My 92s has checkered walnut from Grips 4U they fit well and are quite attractive to boot. I have never liked Pachmeyer grips on anything because of their feel and are butt ugly, I seem to be in the minority with this opinion since more than a few have been sold since their introduction.

The ones on your Taurus do look good! Just not a fan of the ones that fit the 92S model.

Took the gun to the range again guys... I LOVE it!! Ate out the center of the target at 10 yards. Despite the low simple sights, this gun SHOOTS and do I ever love it!! Fits my hand well! No misfires or jams of any kind, just SWEET! I also tried an Uplula magazine loader for the first time... thing ROCKS!!!

I bought one of those B92's a couple years ago. The only problem with the gun (for me) is that the front sight is too small - it's pretty much just a nub, and there's nothing that I know of that can be done to fix the situation.

That's true, it's almost like the non-snag sights you'd find on a pocket pistol. Very small and subtle.

I got my Beretta 92S about a year ago from SOG. I asked for hand picked and what I got looked brand new. I had it threaded for my suppressor. Put on a laser because the suppressor blocks the front sight, which are not the shorter sights, but rather high and normal for a Beretta. I shoots amazingly accurate.

Here is mine that I picked up from Dan's ammo a few years ago. It appeared to be unfired since leaving the factory. No holster wear anywhere on the gun. It came with a updated locking block.

I bought one of the early Italian 92S that looks identical to the original pic in the thread back in 1983, carried it on duty through retirement in 2008. Still carry it occasionally under LEOSA, it served me quite well over the years. Got me home safe one horrible night too. I found hitting the mag release with my left thumb while holding the new mag in my left hand and the pistol in my right, I could slam the new mag home really fast and be back shooting on target before many of my partners could with their mag release buttons in the more conventional area behind the trigger guard. I originally used the wrap-around Pachmayer grips, but around 1994-1995 or so, I got a Crimson Trace laser that fits in the right side grip. My Pachmayer grips were starting to get worn, so I cut the left panel free from the rest and just use it now along with the laser grip. Recently I bought some rubber adhesive grip sheets and cut some to line the backstrap and the front of the grip for more wrap-around feel like it used to be. That helped a lot.
