Beretta 25 Jetfire as defense?

The problem (or advantage) is penetration

I have a Berretta 21 in 22lr. The short barrel severely limits muzzle energy, and leaves a huge flash and report. At about 10 feet the round will only dent a 55 gallon steel drum. Beretta makes a 32 in flip-up barrel that I would be much more comfortable with.

However, since I am a big guy (6'3"), I can carry my full sized Ruger P89 without a problem.

"armed undead ninja grizzly bears"

Dude I shot gingerale out of my nose.

I own exactly 1 working .25, a diminutive Colt vest pocket pistol.. neat gun.

As for lethality a friend of mine was killed by a single .25 cal bullet fired into a crowd.

I suppose a 25 is better than a sharp stick, but like other ppl have said, it has NO intimidation factor. Those lil mouse guns conceal well tho.

I have the 950 Inox with Magsafes in a DeSantis Sting pocket holster. Easiest thing in the world to tote around though of course something a bit heavier is in order during the colder months. Great little gun.

True story. This happened about five years ago to a woman real estate agent I know, in Los Angeles.

She always carried her Beretta .25 in her purse. She always locked her car doors, too... except, as she told me, one day, in a hurry, rushing from one showing to another she forgot to lock her doors. She stopped at a stop light in L.A. Suddenly, the right door swung open and a man jumped in the car, holding a knife to her side. He directed her to drive on. She did.

She always kept her purse near the left door, just beside her left leg. At the next stop light, the man ordered her to turn into the next alley. She said he was extremely nervous, threatening her all the time. As he kept looking around while she waited for the red light to turn to green, she carefully reached into her purse with her left hand, pulled out the .25, and fired two into his left side.

He screamed, dropped the knife (later recovered by cops), jerked open the door and ran. He was later arrested at a local hospital in the Emergency Room. (The good surgeons of the trauma team, managed to save his life and he's now in prison.)

My friend had no intention of "intimidating" this SOB. She just pulled and immediately fired.

One can argue that the SOB "might" have gone on and killed her, as he wasn't "stopped" with the .25 bullets. But he didn't, and it definitely "stopped" whatever he had planned to do with my friend.

As the old saying goes, "A .25 ain't much, but it sure beats Hell outta prayin'."

My wife is looking at this weapon or a Tomcat as her choice for a CCW.

Convince me and her of which is better, and why, if you wouldn't mind.

I really like the Tomcats, but it seems that there were more people unimpressed with it if I remember correctly than there were who liked it. The Jetfire's reliable; it just has no oomph.

Seeing as I have already have a Jetfire, I'd get the Tomcat for sure... the newer "wide-bodies." Any reason a nice little 5-6 shot snub is ruled out?

Though the Tomcat is a bit heavier & bulkier that the Jetfire, the .32 is much more powerful than the .25. I'd go for the .32 every day of the week. Check some of the ammo mfr's sites for specs, the choice becomes obvious.

The Tomcat takes you into the ultra-light .38 snubby territory in terms of weight and bulk, no? The Jetfire offers the advantage of both much lighter weight and more rounds. Seems to me an Airweight has a decided edge on a Tomcat if weight becomes a wash.

I put up with the extra bulk and weight of a larger handgun because I am a little of mouse guns. I have a Jetfire that I got a couple years ago to play with and thats about it.

What I carry is a full-sized S&W Sigma in .40, it's been good to me. I carry it fully loaded with 16 rounds of 165gr Gloden Sabers.

The best thing about the Jetfire is that it is totally reliable and very accurate for such a little thing.. Many .32's in a gun this size are not. When I carry a mouse gun, it is the Jetfire. I have a KelTec P32 and although I think it is an amazingly light piece, I don't trust it.

When I want to pocket effectively it is the Kahr MK9. But sometimes that little fellow is just too heavy and so the Jetfire.

I want to get one of those stainless Jetfires, as mine is blue and prone to rust.

I love my jetfire 25acp. I don't even have a ccw[yet]. for what it is worth, I shot 8 very quick holes in a 3/4 inch plywood today. I'm able to shoot well at close range with either hand.

1,7xx fps that somebody posted earlier from glasers:eek:

Yeah, it's a mousegun, but

point it at any male BGs favorite private parts and watch the doubt grow in his eyes.

While I am not a firm believer in mouse guns, they can and do serve their masters well in CQ situations. A BG getting a stomach or chest full of .22, .25 or .32 caliber slugs is a helluva lot more likely to turn tail than to continue.

I don't know about the rest of you folks, but I'm horribly allergic to pain (it hurts!) and the sight of blood, especially my own. And I can only imagine how allergic I would be to receiving multiple ventilations at the hands of a skilled perforatrix!

I can only feel that the BGs, unless they are DAMN determined, will feel much the same way...
