Beretta 25 Jetfire as defense?

So what do you think guys? I know a 25 sucks as a defense gun. But do you think it would be better than nothing in a pinch, or would one be wiser to pick up a heavy object?

DwightMS

It most certainly would be better than nothing. I'd fire a couple of boxes throught it to make sure its functioning reliably and clean it up well before I depended on it. Is it new or used?

Yes, the .25acp is the most anemic centerfire handgun round going, but plant one or two between the eyes of your attacker see what he has to say about it.

;)

A .25 or .22 will often do the job at point-blank range, but I certainly wouldn't want to have to try engaging an armed adversary at any distance. You should probably do what many of us have done, get a Kel-Tec P32 instead. You're still limited to close range, but at least you'll have more punch.

It either kills outright or really, really pees someone off. I saw a guy get a few 25s in the head that skipped around the scalp, then the shootee almost beat the guy to death with a tire jack....yes the whole jack, not just the iron...that was ugly.

Love 'em,

I'm on my second Jetfire (don't know why I sold the first). I carry it every day. Slips into a pocket quite nicely. Accurate, reliable, smaller in some dimensions than even the P-32, and a real graceful little pistol, to boot.

Here's mine (blue) and my roomie's (inox):

I think The jetfire is a decent Gun imo. i have shot a friends several times , and it was totally reliable. I have shot it at rapid fire , it shoots like a mini machine gun lol. If you carry it for defense i would reccomend using Glasers in the gun though.

Any good 22 or 25 that is reliable I would love as an on and off
carry. Same with a smaller .32...the smaller calibers are the "kill
you later" guns. I just look at it this way...If It was me getting
shot with 8-10 rnds of 22 or 25...Im gonna leak all over the place
and die more slowly than a hand cannon wound....thus the "kill
you later bullets"

And I have yet to see any of the "45 acp or nothing" guys volunteer to get shot with one to prove how ineffective they are.
Shoot well

YES, THAT'S A MOUSE IN MY POCKET

Any gun is better than no gun, but little guns don't intimidate like big guns (EVERYONE knows what a revolver is!).

If required, think "contact weapon" and "shot placement" (eye, spine, joint, kidney, throat/chin, etc...).

A .25 or .22 will often do the job at point-blank range...

That's precisely the job description for the Jetfire...last-ditch defense at point-blank range. I like mine because it's reliable and very compact, and beautiful to look at to boot. It's not meant to be used in 50-yard shootouts with legions of armed undead ninja grizzly bears, but you can definitely ruin someone's day at conversational distances. In any case, it beats harsh language, and we all know that just producing a gun--any gun--can deter an attacker.

Tamara, per our earlier conversation in another thread, what is your impression of the overall size/bulk differences between the Bobcat, Tomcat, P32 and MK9?

Rovert,

Don't have a P-32 nor a MK-9 handy; the Bobcat is the same size as the Tomcat, save for width of slide/diameter of barrel (the two guns use the same grip panels, even).

Here's some well known subcompacts for a size comparison:

Glock 33 (roughly the size of the current crop of mini autos: Kel-Tec/Kahr/Millenium/etc)
Taurus 731UL (your basic J-frame-sized snubby)
Beretta 3032 Tomcat
Beretta 950BS Jetfire

If you're going to carry a .25, I think the 950 is the best one. I used to carry one every time I set foot outside the house. It functioned flawlessly, and I could carry it in my front pant pocket w/o even noticing it was there.

That said, I have real doubts about its effectiveness. I think the only sensible tactic with a weapon like this is to dump all 9 rounds in the BG's throat. When I thought about those few times that I felt I might have to draw and shoot someone, I realized that there was a pretty good chance that the 950 wouldn't have carried the juice to put down everyone that would have needed to be put down.

So the 950 lives in my safe. I really like it; it's a neat little gun. When I carry a gun, though, it's something that can hit harder - which means it's larger and heavier, and more of a pain to carry. So I don't carry every time I set foot outside the house anymore.

I fear the "usefulness of mousegun vs. usefulness of heavy object" debate is not likely to ever be resolved. Resolve it however you feel is appropriate, and I pray you'll never be in a situation where you'll need to use either one.

My Jetfire 950 Inox is...

..loaded with .25ACP Magsafes. The package says 1,750 FPS/150 FT-LBS! It's a little bitty bullet but man, is it ever going down the line!
One other thing I found kinda neat is that, even when it was new, my Jetfire has NEVER malfunctioned. Not even once! Absolutely NO break-in.

what are they worth?

a co-worker's wife has a "small beretta" (i'm thinking jetfire or m-21) he said they lost the mag

now he was asking what i think it might be worth ($50?)

i think he can live with a ballpark figure

I really like mine also... there's a link to a picture of it in my signature. It's been WAY beyond expectations concerning reliability, and it's a classy little looker too. Great gun for people who are scared or flinch a lot during shooting.

I paid 179.00 + taxes new about 3 years ago. I'd do it again.
