Beretta 1201fp question

I was told that the guns imported after 94 were modified so that they only hold 5 2.75" shells, making them legal with the pistol grip stocks since there is no way to easily mount a magazine extension to the 1201FP. They stopped importing factory PG models around then anyway. Mine came straight stocked and its a 1991 vintage model. Holds 6+1 (+1), or 5+1+1 in 3" shells.

I've broken the gun down, its quite easy.
Just retract the bolt a bit so its not in battery, then remove the barrel and foreend. Firmly pull the bolt handle from the bolt, and slide the bolt and its inertia arm assembly out the front of the receiver. Assemble in reverse order, making sure that inertia arm goes back properly into the receivers recoil spring guide. Mine is always clean inside, even after firing quite a few rounds, but I felt the need to learn how each of my weapons is field stripped. You can also take the bolt apart, but that isn't really necessary to check out the bolt handle.

One TFL poster, who is a graduate of the Beretta armourer's school, mentioned that the bolt assembly of the 1201 will fit and function in the Benelli M1 series of shotguns. I'm not 100% sure that it works the other way, or that the size of the lug of the handle are the same. I don't know anyone with a Benelli that is willing to try it, unfortunately. I'm curious though, as the free spinning bolt handle doesn't provide as positive a grip as the spur shaped Benelli handle when doing select slug drills or performing "the trick" to increase the shotguns capacity.

That may very well be. The BATF is the one to ask.
Sounds like you can do it to it.
Thanks for the info on the cleaning. I'll print it out and get busy.

Bought a CPMI bolt handle listed for Benellis for my 1201FP3 and it fit in perfectly. Still on the gun. Not much to changing them out.

Brownell's lists one from Dave's Metal Works for the Benelli and Beretta 1200 series, so I guess its confirmed that they interchange. The Dave's one appears to be round, rather than spur shaped, so I'm not sure if it is intended to rotate like the stock 1201's charging handle.

Is the CPMI one shaped differently? I don't need it any bigger, just non-rotating and better shaped for non-slip manipulation.

Well... the CPMI is what you said you didn't want. It's quite a bit larger (thank god) than the stock Beretta charging handle. It's about 3/4's of an inch diameter, circular, rotating bolt handle. As much as anyone else, I've found there is not that much aftermarket stuff (compared to other makes/models) for the Beretta 1201's and that little bolt handle was killing my hand so Brownell's listed it for about 12 bucks for the Benelli quite a while back. Took the chance and it fit perfectly so guess my point was that if it fits the Benellis would think it would fit your Beretta.

Erick,

I'm sorry to bring this thread back to the top, but I'd like to know
the technical reason why the felt recoil was reduced by shortening
the stock. Thanks.

Mike

Mine has less recoil than my Rem Marine Magnum.

I do shoot reduced recoil loads in both of them nowadays.

How short did you go? I'm finding that even the 13" LOP is too long for a lot of slug shooting. I'm 5'8" with a 39# chest and have seen guys 6' with 44" chests shooting 870's with LOP 12-12 1/2 inches .... and they like it that way.
