Retraction and apology
I have provided information that is not correct and I apologize.
I talked today with an old friend that was a production supervisor with remington for over 30 years. He was there during the time that the Express models were released and worked in the area that they were made in.
The finish of the Express models and the cheaper 1100's with synthetics stocks is applied as follows:
1) the gun is machined and internally fitted.
2) once tested for proper operation it is SHOT blasted with a fine steel media. All other surface prep operations are skipped, no polishing at any point. The surfaces are so rough at this point that any imperfections are hidden.
3) the guns are then run through the EXACT same blueing process that everything else is run through, which is a phosphate blueing.
ALL other features of the guns (metal parts only) are exactly the same as the wingmasters and other polished blue models. They come off the same machines in the same production runs by the same operators. There are NO dimensional differences, material differences or any of that, the difference is strictly in the polish or lack of polishing. Combine no finishing operations with econo stocks and you have the cost savings to put the express to market way under wingmaster prices.
Again I apologize for the misinformation. Hope this clears it up.
