Benelli M1 Tactical on the way, a few questions...

I checked out the Patternmaster website and may have to get one of these. The cost for the Benelli is $125 plus shipping, not $75. They have a close, medium and long range version. Which one did you get? For defensive purposes would the short range version be best?

Harrydog,

Not sure - I didn't even know that they came in three flavors. I got mine from Cabela's (CMOS, the part # is SA-22-2085-200). They only list one type and according to my catalog (Fall 2000) the price is $79.99.

Hope this helps.

For defensive use on a Benelli, the nice people at Patternmaster recommended the Benelli Standard (~$80, IIRC) tube, which is same thing as their "Police Fist" tube referenced in one of the magazine articles on their web site.

Mine is unported. As I have not yet patterned my Benelli with the Patternmaster, I don't know how much it will shrink my patterns. Gotta find out soon, I guess.

On a semi-related topic, one of our local IDPA clubs is looking hard at adopting some shotgun rules drawn up for IDPA type competitions. Starting next year, we may have monthly IDPA shotgun shoots (requiring buckshot and slugs to make it more realistic).

Hi all,

I going to purchase a Benelli Super Black Eagle for waterfowl and turkey. I assume it's the same intertia action as the M1 Tactical. Something I've been told is the Benelli needs to be shoulded fired for the semi-auto to work due to the intertia action?

This web site may be of interest.

Have a good day.

Well I just ordered a Patternmaster from Cabela's.

We shall soon see the results!

Turk, Mine works fine when fired from the hip as long as I use decent ammo. It was only with the 7/8 oz target loads that I had any problems with cycling.

Paochow,

Thanks for the info (actual) I asked a question on how good the SBE was waterfowl hunting on another forum (waterfowl hunting) had a lot of good response about the SBE. A couple of the responses made the comment about the stock must be in the shoulder for it to function? Now other posts (more)state as you do that it always doesn't function with the low end loads. But will function from the hip.

Thanks for the info.

Jfrancis, are you really using that patternmaster full choke with slugs too?

CMOS,

Yes. I have taken at least two shotgun classes over which 150-250 slugs were fired and used it with slugs quite a bit outside of training (3-gun matches, practice etc.). Seems to work fine.

[whistling again]

Thanks.
