Been in an Internet fist fight for days

Ah, but what all of you forget who are saying "Leave them to their own devices" is the lurkers.

The lurkers are the ones whose minds can be swayed as they look on the procedings. They see the structured argument, citations, and links of the one side and the name calling, vitriol, and emotionalism of the other.

The hard cores aren't going to click on the links, read the citations, or analyze the debate -- but the lurkers will.

They are the true target.

Outflank Them

My approach is to avoid arguing with antis, but to introduce neutrals to shooting. Don't try to reduce the number of antis, increase the number of pros.
JM $0.02.
Good luck.

I agree we have to work on the neutrals more than the anti's, but I just can't resist. Interesting website. I'm having fun.

Arguing over the Internet is like running in the special olympics, even if you win, you're still retarded...

Sorry, I've always liked that saying though. I don't think you're retarded either, but arguing online is usually fruitless.

Good ta see ya there. DO-YOU-FEEL-THE-BEAT is a strange one. Claims to be a lawyer and those who have dealt with him on other boards state he has admitted to being a n Ecstacy user.

I finally put him behind me and I don't read his posts beyong his handle. I won't respond to him any longer. He is a waste of time.

WARNING: His favorite ploy is to ask a question and several psts later claim that you never answered his question and then sevarel posts later claim the same thing again. He's a waste of time.

Professor Gary Kleck is a life long (self-avowed) liberal democrat

I believe is the most renowned person to study the subject. When he started studying the subject he was on the opposite side of the debate. He may be a lib/dem. but he sure aint no idiot like the rest. (yea aint aint a word)

Nationwide. In 1979, the Carter Justice Department found that of more than 32,000 attempted rapes, 32% were actually committed. But when a woman was armed with a gun or knife, only 3% of the attempted rapes were actually successful.

I just spent much to much time reading every one of the 256 posts there.

I must be crazy.

So Clinton's reforms have worked...why not try some more?
Jim, while you addressed his silliness, the particulars are these --

In the early 1980s, sociologist James Wright and Peter Rossi completed a study requested way back by the Clinton Administration to find gun control laws that reduced crime so more like them could be passed. W&R wrote that none of the many laws they studied were not found to reduce crime and they could think of none that could.

In 1995, Jacobs and Potter (Northwestern Univ), studied the Brady Law and found that it did not reduce crime and was rife with abuse (purchase rejections for outstanding boating violations, etc).

The General Accounting Office found similar results a few years later.

In 2000, anti-gun researchers Jens Ludwig and Philip Cook released a study showing that the Brady Law could not be credited with reducing murder rates.

I think it was the same year or slightly later when the CDC reported that of all the studies they had participated in or had later reviewed, none found a link to gun control laws and reduction in crime...but they wanted further study.
