Been in a car when a weapon was discharged inside the car?

Short version;
I rolled up on 2 cars running side by side, a passenger in one car was shooting into the other car. I chased down the shooter's car while he hung out the window shooting back at me. His car stopped and I stopped behind him. The shooter baled out and started to raise his Glock my direction. I fired 2 rounds from a .357 through my truck's windshield, ruined my windshield, added more ringing to my poor hearing, rang my head for a bit, shot the guy through the crotch. He also got 7 years in prison. I often have trouble hearing some women's voice, tone loss I guess.

Just from real life experience.

I was hunting deer with a farmer friend in central Nebraska. We were heading back to the farm, to let me out. He said he would look for coyotes after he let me out. Before I got out I rolled up the passenger window since it was warm during the day but at dusk it was cooling down fast.

I got a call at home 3 hours later. Did I want to know what a 06 sounds like in an enclosed cab, he was a lefty, shooting at a coyote? He did not check the window before shooting. I was also the last time he shot from inside a vehicle on the farm or not.

Yes, bought a Ruger M77V in 308 years ago. Received a recall notice suggesting a problem with the safety. Since the rifle shot so well and had a nice trigger, I decided to forget about it......mistake. Started to rain while hunting and got inside my pickup with the gun, as soon as I took the safety off to unload, BOOM. It wasn't really that loud.....but the concussion was tremendous. Kind of numb all over for a while but no lasting effects. Can you hear me now??????

Had a piece of junk Renualt Alliance (redundant) for awhile. When it finally expired , I called my buddy's tow truck , and pulled my .380 out and pumped 7 into the dashboard. Yeah , stupid in many ways. I should have rolled down the windows first , but aside from some ringing , no damage.

i cannot remember what typ of rifle it was but was inside a truck when a 45 caliber carbine went off. lucky for all of us the barrel was jamed into a suit case so it was muffled....but still loud lol ears rang a lil bit but wasnt to bad :)

Went plinking with a guy who brought his .357 4" Smith. I ran out of rounds and was cold anyway so I hopped in my car. He kept shooting. I kid you not, from inside my '77 T Bird it sounded like someone was throwing big rocks at my car. I thought to myself "that concussion is hitting your eardrums when you shoot!" I've worn ear protection ever since.

Dad shot the dimmer switch out of the floor of his old pickup one winter day when we were driving around shooting rabbits. Thought I was never get my hearing back.

Couple years ago I bought him a Rem 700 BDL 22-250 that someone did a "trigger job" on. He was sitting in his favorite chair unloading it when it went off about 2 ft from my head. Bullet went through all the way out the roof. Nice no. 2 pencil sized hole. Thought I was shot, then I thought I was deaf. But somehow miraculously could hear my mom chewing his ass over the ringing in my ears.:p

I had a window looking out into the parking lot of the gun store where I used to smith. Several times I seen a weapon discharge in the vehicle, all were on duty or off duty police officers! I saw one come into the shop and ask if he could use the phone. We watched as a Sergent came out and he explained how he put a round in his radio, with his father-in-laws .45 colt commander.
Come to find out he had never been shown a Colt before and had no idea how to work it.

I hated riding in a Humvee at any time with a .50 on the top. The top gunner would get to firing and it reminded me of how I felt after getting concussed in football.

To echo what MLeake said, during reaction drills that M-9 had quite the bite inside the cab, even when wearing plugs.

Yeah, and it's not funny at all. Left a whistle in both ears for a while, then went away, but I guess I'll pay for it when it sums up with all the shooting with no hearing protection I've done in the old days.

This was a ND from a guy that forgot to flip down his safety lever when decocking his pistol after loading, in a pistol with no decocker.

I don't know if this counts:

When I was very young, I had a friend who was periodically roughed up by a group of idiots in his neighborhood. Well, one day, we had a bag of what we called ashcans, giant M-80-type fireworks. They were made from a very thick cardboard tube and about 1 3/4" in diameter and about 3" long with a piece of green cannon fuse sticking out of the middle. I had the bright idea to drive by their usual corner and chuck one out near them. Well, my bonehead buddy lit one and attempted to pitch it out the window but it glanced of of the top of the window opening and bounced into the rear of my ol' '68 Ford Futura wagon. The rear seat was down so it just bounced all the way to the back. The blast knocked out all of the rear glass right abreast of the group of guys in question. I don't know why but my friend then leaned out of the window and pointed at them very vigorously. They just stood there as we drove away at 10MPH.

My ears did ring for a while afterwards. Although the concussion was big enough to make hearing kinda difficult for a bit and disable my domelight, my ears didn't ring as badly as they did after a Deep Purple concert I saw back in the early-mid '70s. That was really loud.

Note: They left him alone after that because they thought that we did it on purpose and were thus totally insane.

I had an accidental slam fire on a AK variant inside our van. 7.64X39. The bullet went thru the side and luckily never hit anybody. It did destroy a wire bundle. Van was never the same again. The rear AC never did work right.
No it did not burst anyones eardrum.
I do feel however a 50BMG ( I am a 50 shooter.) going off in a van could have a damaging concussion.

Woad_Yurt: I would have loved to be on the corner when that happened and heard their reaction.

(I would also have liked to be a fly on the wall when you explained to your folks what happened to the glass in your car.)

I forgot about the .50 cal chugging away on top of the HUMVEE. That was awful.

We were at the range once and I was sitting in a Peace Keeper (Armored Truck) with the M-60 Chugging away on top. That was not a pleasant experience either.

We fired the 81mm Mortar from an M-113 once. I was pretty certain it was going to be a deafening experience. I was pretty surprised when it did not blow our eardrums out. (We were dropping flares during a Team Spirit exercise.)

Was sitting in patrol car when I heard a round go off. Seems my partner had a J frame S&W in an upside down shoulder holster under his jacket as a BUG. He also had a trigger shoe that was wider than the trigger guard (that's why they call them trigger guards DUH). The trigger guard caught on the edge of the holster . Shot himself in the upper arm. Drove him to hospital, treated and recovered. His ass probabby hurt worse where the Sgt. chewed on it.

YES !! many times, if you consider 5 times as "many", the worst was when this crazy friend of mine and 4 others were coyote hunting, all 6 of us were piled into one of guys 51 Mercury station wagon, it was dark, we were returning to camp when a coyote ran out in front of us, the driver stopped and this crazy fool was grabbing for a gun and got my Sakp 7mm Rem. Mag. before any of us could do anything he racked the bolt and fired a round thru the roof of the wagon in his haste to get the muzzle out the rear window, needless to say, we all piled out shaking our heads wiggling our fingers in our ears and cussing that dumbass. he was never invited on any of our hunts after that incident, i have some permanent hearing damage in my left ear as my head was about 16 inches from the muzzle.

another time was when this friend (Dean) and his brother and i were going rabbit hunting, Dean pulled my H&R .22 revolver from the glove box and somehow fired a round thru the floor board of his brothers 46 Chevy pick up, no damage to the truck, but Dean ended up with a loose tooth.., his brother whacked the crap out of him !!

Was at my buddies backyard range and tried a few shots out of the passenger window while i was in the driver seat coasting. wasnt wearing ears because i wanted to see what it sounded like. Weapon was a USP .45 and it wasnt bad at all :)

However I make it a point to shoot my .45 without ears every so often so I know what to expect should I ever have to us it for defense...

I feel that everyone should do this ^^^ we all know gunshots are loud but take a few shots (with the SAME ammo you carry in your weapon for self-defense) WITHOUT ear protection. Trust me it will help to know whats coming should you ever have defend yourself. You do not wanna be shaken by the sound of your own shots..

I was on radio watch in the Coast Guard once when part of the crew returned from the pistol range. The gun safe was in the Comm Center. One of the senior Petty Officers who had been at the range was told that he was jerking the trigger on his 1911 and he should insert a pencil in the barrel and point it at the wall or something and practice dry firing. He walked in to the radio room to stow his weapon and instead decided to try the technique with the pencil. He said to me; Hey Scott, you got a pencil? I threw him a pencil and the next thing I hear is a very loud boom. He shot the gun safe with his .45!

I've seen a 3 round burst of 50 BMG inside a 10x10 room. No formal hearing protection, just fingers in the ears (literally). I was smart enough to be standing in the doorway. My boss was dumb enough to be IN the room.

I gather it was a bit intense and he had no desire to repeat the experience.

(Note: guns were fired via remote control)
