barska 6-24X50 sniper scope?

The ranch neighbor's kid has that Barska scope. I've shot his rifle a few times and I wasn't very impressed by the optics. Still, it worked Ok and he uses it for hunting (2nd year), so I guess it's worth small money. If it was me, I'd probably go with the Tasco 6X24, but that's because I had one for years and it never let me down. The only drawback was that it was pretty dim in weak light and was therefore better for target shooting than coyote hunting. I expect that the Barska is also going to be less than great in low light situations, but that's a guess on my part.

Until now I have been using a newer Pentax 3-15X50, a Mueller TAC II 3-10X44 for five years, and a old Hakko 5-15X56 (house brand of the SA M1A scope) for twelve years. These are low cost scopes with the Mueller being the most expensive at $300+. These have functioned well, tracking, repeatability and optical quality are very good. I would say the Mueller TAC II and the Pentax are very similar to the $600 Nikons in optic quality.

I want to get a higher power scope, something in the area of 20X and have a clear optic at that power. About the cheapest I could find was the Viper Vortex, then I shoot a standard Viper 6.5-20x50 rifle scope. It had side focus and a fine plex reticle with moa marking and the best part is Midway has a dealer special price of $349, so I gambled on it. It's back ordered so I have to wait and see if I made a poor choice or not. The one I shot was very clear at full magnification. For you guys that say 20X is too much you need to spend more time shooting at 1Kyds plus.

I have two Barsca scopes that actually work very good. No they are not a Nikon Monarch, but they do a very good job. My inexpensive scope of choice in definitely Mueller, but the Barskas are really pretty good. I have a friend that put the one you just got on a Remington 700 SPS Varmint 308 and is very pleased with it.

I have a 4.5-14X Mueller on my Tikka .223 Rem and it's a very nice scope. I have several more expensive scopes that don't complain a bit when I put the the Tikka in the vault. ;)

Seriously, it's a fine scope with good adjustments and clear/bright optics.

I have the scope you are taking about on a savage edge .223. Payed $395 for the whole setup. Got a bipod on it also. Out to about 400 yards I can keep up with most jacked up varmint rifles.

ok guys thanks for the input...I am looking at my situation with much more optimism than I was but I can definitely say that I wont be able to put it on the gun I bought it for(300 weatherby mag). so now the question is between a 10/22 or an AK47 which would you put it on? the AK is all synthetic furniture and I'm going to get a recoil pad for the folding stock so recoil would probably be about the same range as a 243.

I realize that the magnification of the scope is well beyond the recommended range of both of these weapons but I really don't want to mess with any of my guns that are already zeroed with "nice scopes".
