I would recommend getting a .50 since they are probably not going to be as readily available in the near future. But I wouldn't get the 82 unless you plan on having a multiple tank encounter anytime soon. The 82A1 is not very accurate and is very heavy. It has a weak scope rail and other stuff that would need work to make it reliable. Although I must say it is an outstanding weapon. On the other hand, the Barrett 99, or any other bolt action such as the AR-50 or McMillan are all accurate and nice shooters. The model 99 is 24 lbs. I think, off the top of my head, and is far more accurate than the 82. You will find yourself saving quite a bit of money going this route also, maybe even enough to get going on your auto M16. You can pick up preban AR-15 lowers for around 8 or 900 around here. So the compromise would allow you to get 2 for the price of 1 M82. This is all jibber jabber. I just say get what you want, you probably have no use for either of them so which ever one is 'funner' is the one to get.
