Barrel installation #101.......

I picked up a brand new 3" blued Ruger GP-100 a while ago. Haven't had the chance to shoot it yet, just been doing dry firing with A-Zoom snap caps.

Anyway, and I sure goofed when I picked up gun at dealer as I never noticed the following; the barrel is located to the right of the center of the frame; just guessing at least .030, maybe more. It's not crooked; it's not canted to the right, just off center....

I'm sure they test fire these babies before they get out of the factory; I don't know whether or not to shoot it, I'm not crazy about sending gun back to Ruger; I can live with it as is, as long as it shoots straight.......any thoughts folks?

1. Send it to Ruger. No one else can correct the problem, which will require a new frame. Or,

2. Live with it. Or,

3. Trade it off and don't tell anyone it is a deviate.

Return to dealer from whence it came. Total refund or replacement.

That failing, call Ruger. Politely and objectively describe.

Either should take care of you nearly instantly.

One will if the other won't.

Document everything.

thanks guys,

I'll bring it to dealer.....see what they'll do.

I've never seen a revolver with this kind of "flaw" before.......

It may turn out to be amazingly accurate.

It may blow chunks of lead out the sides, and split the forcing cone in a very short period of time.

If you truly feel that something isn't right about it, get in touch with Ruger.

It sounds like it was a badly forged frame.

Don't fire that gun! At least ".030" is way too much off line. Take it back or call Ruger. A gun made like that - they had better pay for shipping also.

Thanks again for the help, when dealer opens in the morning, I'll be there....

I'd taken a sharp pencil and laid it on the sighting "trough" of the frame and the tip touched the very left edge of front sight blade..wish I had camera setup...you'd get a chuckle....I do too, until I look at the sales slip.........

Update; I brought the gun back to dealer, cut him a check for the shipping costs, and gun is on it's way to Ruger, I wrote Ruger a letter, explaining problem and asking them to refund shipping charges, we shall see......

Saxon, I've owned a 4 inch GP and a SP-101 and a lot of other makes....NEVER seen anything like this one.....

I called Ruger on 9/4, they said they'd received my gun on 8/21 and it hadn't been "evaluated" yet. Gal told me to call back this monday and they'd have an answer....

Hey, she was friendly, spoke english, and I wasn't on hold for 29 minutes........:D

Ruger comes through.....

I went to my dealer Fri. and he had a letter from Ruger stating that they were sending me a replacement GP-100. I had to sign letter and mail it back to N.H. Hope to have my new piece in a week or two....

So, props to Ruger (or Rugahhhh for the homies back east...)

They were quick to make things right, man , there could be hope for customer service after all..:D

Glad it is resolved, but really, if the barrel was actually off-center what else could they do? I don't think I'd exactly cheer them for replacing a gun that should never have been allowed to leave the factory in the first place. Don't they do any quality control inspections?

Saxon,

You're right; the POS should've never left the factory.....I guess I'm glad they were pretty quick to respond ( or cover their arse..;))
