The only thing I don't like about Americans is making 'fringe' sound like a bad thing.

I had a fringe jacket when I was a kid. It wasn't bad at all! My fringe benefits at work aren't bad. A marginal/minor(fringe) candidate like Badnarik certainly fits another definition.
