bad day at the range

Don't know about the S&W problem, but I think I'd find a range where the backstop that doesn't throw things back at me!

Most of the indoor ranges use a similar steel arm hanging from a cable to clip your targets to. You'll notice that they are generally triangular, so as to not deflect lead directly back to the shooter if he its it. However, if someone hits it just right, it can deflect lead back to another shooter.

It's just one of those things you put up with if you are shooting at an indoor range. You can get hit by a piece of lead - it hurts, but if you are wearing eye protection, that all. If you get hit in the eye with a piece of lead with that kind of impact, it could do some serious damage.

I wish I had a dollar for every round I've caught that's bounced off a trap, pin or plate. If getting a welt is something you don't want to do, either stick to shooting rifles (reduces the chance of getting hit but doesn't do away with it) or get out of handgunning... because it's gonna happen.

I wouldn't expect the range master to do much either. He can't turn back time and he's not going to kick someone off the range because a bullet bounced back.

Wear eye protection and enjoy yourself. If you get a welt or two, wear them like badges of honor.

I have been hit by ricochets, but pretty minor ones, probably fragments. I know of one case where a guy took a bad one to the neck. Bullets still lodged there. I think people for the most part try to keep things safe but anytime your dealing with extremely fast moving objects there's a risk we all assume.

Furminator- I also shoot at Shooters Shop and have been whapped by slag a number of times. It only seems to happen at this particular range for some reason. It only seems to happen when someone is shooting in the lane closest to a wall. It looks like there may be a surface for the bullet to ricochet off toward the end of the range.

I got hit in the upper lip with some slag a couple of weeks ago. Good thing I had my big mouth shut or I would of lost a tooth.

I've never had or seen this happen, but then again the indoor range I go to is fairly new and rather large. The backstop is way back there. I've been hit in the face with my own brass a couple of times, but there's hardly any comparing the two.

I shot earlier this week and sent the target all the way down ...fired 6 rounds out of my 65 6 shooter...brought the target back...9 holes in it...

Some People...;)

Yes. Hit in the groin at an outdoor range by a .45. Got the full bullet, not a splatter. Huge bruise but, no blood. Hit in the foot while bulling butts by a 5.56. Splattered several times at an indoor range by idjits hitting target holders. Looking around on the floor, one can always see jacket shreds on the firing line. Don't stand too close to a revolver shooter or you may get some cylinder gap spray consisting of powder and lead.

I've also been hit by a number of pellets ove rthe years while duck and bird hunting.

I had to replace the barrel of my Colt Trooper 30 years ago, cracked forcing cone. Good luck finding a replacement, if I find one I will let you know c/o this forum.
One thing I like about the Dan Wesson, replacing barrel takes about 2 minutes.
I have been beaned with other shooters brass, never encountered any ricochets or splatter, and I shoot almost exclusively at indoor ranges. I have seen bullet holes in the sides of lanes, unfortunately not all shooters are as skilled ans dafety conscious as member of TFL.
