Bad bad season, or, Sometimes I Hate Hunting

still skunked, educate'em

Seeing some deer now, but still no meat.

Monday night, hunting open hardwoods next to bed cover, w/ buck sign, multiple deer pin me in the tree at dark, eventually get down wind and spook.
Deer inside 20 yds, but too dark to shoot.

Tonight, different tree, different location, doe comes out of bed cover and works out into hardwood bottom.
At 20 yds she goes behind tree and I draw. She turns 90 degrees away and does not present a shot. Eventually the wind shifts and she spooks. Man o man, just one more step.

Four hunts, 3 contacts w/ deer, 0 shots. Odds are getting better, but no winners yet.

Been really considering moving from central Texas for a while. Reading what I've been on this thread it would be one of the few reasons I'd sing "I Can't See Texas From Here." I usually hunt in the Hill Country and could easily fill my 5 deer limit in a weekend. They may not be as big, but they are everywhere! But I think I'd rather leave!

bad badseason or I hate hunting

don't give up... huntin' is huntin', some times it's chicken sometimes it's feathers. I keep telling my wife you have to put your time in she gave up early this year, missed one of the best seasons in a while. I passed on some small bucks, to leave them for her.
she has had her spot... my friend saw she wasn't there and in 10 min. shot a real nice 5x6. that didn't sit well with her.
you have to put your time in you are not going to get a buck sittin' around watchint tv.
