Shooting at a downward angle into a plowed field is generally very safe as the bullet will bury itself in the furrows. The problem is flat packed ground makes a ricochet prone backdrop. Can you rent a backhoe? You could probably create a pretty decent backstop with a tractor in half a day. Consider planting trees behind your planned shooting area also.
