AWB poll

OMG, Bluesman, pull your head out of your nether regions dude. I know wtf it says. If WE voluntarily repeat THEIR words, then we're shooting ourselves in the foot time and time again. What part of that don't people get, most especially YOU of all people, BM. Get with the program, folks.

I'm sorry Bluesman. I didn't realize you were seriously trying to answer my question. I thought you were being somewhat sarcastic to me, in light of the fact that this is the 473rd time I've harped on this issue. Oops.... I do find it unfathomable that the mods and regular 2A supporters here will repeatedly, willingly help the antis in their propoganda war by using/repeating their bogus words that describe a homeland defense rifle ban. It's quite maddening to me. Again, sorry.

I did my part.

Ok FF... I get it

The ban should now be against ONLY the cosmetic changes across last ten years. It should require that all "cosmetic" firearms be turned in to federal armories where they will be exchanged free for new, operational, originally configured like models.

The new mantra: "UP Prebans, DOWN postbans - the changes were evil, the real McCoy was okay after all." :D

I assume that readers at this and other sites are familiar with the proper definition of ASSAULT WEAPONS, so I will not bother to repeat it. As a result of INACTION on our part, we can loose this one.

If we do loose it as a result of our own laziness, then we well and truly deserve the screwing that we get.

End.

Done. WHat are the odds that McCarthy will get booted this November? I'm praying that they're good.

Re McCarthy getting dumped, first question is as follows.

Are the Republicans actually running a candidate?
Second point is as follows. I left NYC in 1967. McCarthy is out on Long Island, as I recall. I haven't any sort of handel on the politics in that area, as they are these days, so who knows. It would be nice to see her and a bunch of others gone.

In her case, I suppose it depends on how long the "sympathy factor" is good for.

alan,

I assume that readers at this and other sites are familiar with the proper definition of ASSAULT WEAPONS, so I will not bother to repeat it.

Do you mean ASSAULT RIFLES, which are defined as "select-fire shoulder arms chambered for an intermediate cartridge," or ASSAULT WEAPONS, which is a legal term, much like "Short-Barrelled Rifle" or "Any Other Weapon"? (A preban Colt is not an 'Assault Weapon'. A 'ban-era' commercial Busmaster M4gery is not an 'Assault Weapon'. An "LEO or Military Use Only" Olyarms carbine made between 1994 and 2004 is an 'Assault Weapon' until the middle of next week, when the term will cease to have any meaning, at least at the Federal level.)

firstfreedom, I don't care whether it's the millionth time you've complained about the term. It IS an assault weapons ban. The term "assault weapon" is defined by federal law (until Tuesday). Using the term is hardly an acknowledgement of the righteousness of the law or the legitimacy of the term. It's just acknowledgement that the law exists. Certainly we can all agree about that?

Tamara:

The definition that I made reference to, which I've quoted more times than I care to remember, is essentially what you mentioned. Assault Weapon: Selective fire weapon, usually of rifle configuration, chambered for an intermediate power cartridge.

I've seen this in reference texts that address small arms, and as I recall, also at www.britannica.com. I believe that this is also essentially the definition one would obtain from Dept. of Defense and Dept. of The Army, or U.S. Army, whichever it might be currently called.

alan,

Assault RIFLE: Select-fire shoulder arm chambered for an intermediate cartridge. (From the German "Sturmgewehr.")
Assault WEAPON: Legal term created by "Crime Bill of '94". (From the Bill Bennett "Hysteria.")

Assault RIFLE and assault WEAPON = two completely different things, one of which will cease to exist in most states as of the middle of this week.
