Availability of .32 Win Special?

.32 special was an odd duck from the beginning. It was originally advertised as a factory smokeless round that was promoted as being a round to be reloaded with black powder. It has a different twist rate than the .30-30, the .32 specials twist rate is for a black powder round. Black powder loads of all kinds lasted until the the start of WW2, over 50 years after semi-smokeless and smokeless powder was introduced.

Even reloading .32 Winchester will be a problem unless you cast as Hornady is not making seasonal run bullets so that means no bullets for .32 Winchester or 25-35 and some others. I usae an 8mm mold and cast then and gascheck. You will probably have to do the same.

You could get by not buying any major reloading equipment other than a small cheap beam scale for a time. Paper patching lead bullets would work. Just takes a little practice a sheet or two of cotton fibered paper and some really slow burning powder. In regards to those specialize tools patching requires. A plastic school ruler that measures Millimeters will suffice along with the following, a pencil, a sharpened paring knife, a hammer and a small pin punch so's too push those spent primers out with. Only one draw back. The wife will have to let you use her kitchen cutting board for your patches cutting & rolling purpose.

Its been said and done. A patched bullet can equal or better the accuracy of a jacketed bullet at the same speed of a jacketed. Just something to consider photographix.
BTW: I've been patching bullets for my 30-30 for awhile now. It's very entertaining not at all complicated. Its a hobby I consider to be "You learn as you go & do ones."_:)
