Auto or Wheel for carry?

Ruger, Taurus or Smith hammerless revo. Meanest little SD guns out there. Still in your pocket or purse? Wrong hand? Wrong grip? BG got ya all wrapped up? If you can pull the trigger, it'll go bang. 5 times.

I first carried a J-frame 38 in the seventies as my concealed weapon.

Then I went to The American Pistol Institute (AKA Gunsite) for training. There I learned that the 1911 is superior to revolvers as a defensive weapon in many respects. Since that first instruction, and for about the last thirty years I have carried a full sized 1911 as my concealed carry weapon.

I'd say it takes a bit more training and practice to be as competent with an auto as a wheel gun. That practice should focus on failure drills as there are more ways for an auto to malfunction than a revolver. That is not to say that any particular gun will malfunction. I really like the trigger action on my 1911s.

I carry an auto , they tend to be thinner and less bulky, I carry the Taurus PT-145, 45 ACP with one extra 10 round magazine. here I have a little hint for you guys that like the cargo pocket style pants, I always buy the Wrangler hero cargo pockets, long and the shorts now that summer Is here and I get them at Wal Mart @ $15 a clip?, on top of the cargo pocket flap In the center there is a small opening ( pocket like ) that I use to carry my extra magazine in, It fits just right and It's on both sides! I don't like the mag pouch on the belt. When I first found this out only the left side had the poening, now I see that on all the new ones they have it on both sides.
they are not to deep, the mags. that I carry are just about 4 1/4" long & 1" wide and they are double stack and they fit just fine, you would think that they were made just for that, A word of care here, from time to time check the mags. for dust bunnys that may stop the rounds from feeding:confused: What ever floats your boat!!!
Sorry for the spelling, Semper fi to all always, Hank D.

I like both for everyday carry - I definitely think the auto has the upper hand as far as reloads go, unless your Jerry Miculek!

" The fastest way to reload a revolver, is to have a second revolver! "
- Clint Smith

Either/or, sometimes both - depends on weather and location

Weather allows choice of clothing, P220 or GP100, LCR potential BUG.

Weather gets warmer, maybe P220 or GP100, but more likely P239; LCR potential bug.

Shorts and tank or T, LCR.

Outdoor activities, the .357 is likely to win out, due to availability of loads suitable for 4 legged critters.

Downtown activities, the P220 has the quick reload advantage due to higher likelihood of multiple 2 legged critters.

Most places and weather, a knife is also part of the wardrobe. For urban carry, typically a CRKT M16-14T titanium or an Applegate-Fairbairn folder; for rural climes, a fixed blade Busse HG55.

Questions only you can answer...

What do I shoot well? What will I carry 24/7? What budget to I have? What is the maximum threat could encounter, are capacity and caliber factors? How much training are you committed to? Will any novice shooter have to rely on this gun for SD? Probability of being a target (age, disability, gender, being stalked...)?

Carrying all the time trumps all other factors. Become proficient in both and find the right tool(s) for the job.

Why not go with the best of both worlds -- the autorevolver!

I carry wheelguns all the time. I started off with a DAO auto (a Keltec P11 in 9mm), but it was giving me too many problems (in visiting the range once a week and practicing with it every time, it was breaking about once a month--not good in something I was betting my life on), so I switched to a small/J-frame revolver, first in 9mm (Taurus 905), and then in .38SPL+P (S&W 642-2).

Sometimes, though, I wish I had a Ruger LCP for when pocket carry is the only way to go (i.e. dressing up, or wearing tight jeans with a tucked-in shirt).

To this day i still reach for my 686 4 inch in my daily carry.I have a glock 22 and even a snubbie but i feel more comfortable with the 686,that and it's way more accurate for me.

Either

Either, does for me.

2", .38Spl up to 5", .45ACP.

It depends on situation.

Hiking where an encounter with bear, or heading to a HP match, usually upgrade CPL items.

I carry both, it just depends. Autos outnumber my revolvers by 3 to 1, however the majority of the time my 637 Airweight comes along for the ride. It is easy, reliable, I shoot it great, what more could you ask for?

I hear a lot of folks complain about revolver triggers, but you get used to them with some practice and also for goodness sake, take it to a gun smith! I did and for $35 my trigger is about 20% lighter and very smooth, not to mention as reliable as ever. With LG105 grips on it, is about the perfect carry, just slip it in the pocket and go.

I usually have an autoloader along too. Occasionally my G30 is my only carry.

Put me in the revolver camp. I've yet to find a handgun that I can shoot better than this

S&W Model 28-2 .357 Magnum

And this carries so nicely
