Aussie animal rights types even nuttier than our own

Aussies are so animal sympathetic they are having a crodille problem. Crocs have multiplied to the point where they are overunning all waterways, even far outside the remote places they used to inhabit and not go anywhere else. They are so numerous they need more and more food. Fish are getting scarce in many places so the crocs are turning to small animals, children and even adults. But it is illegal to kill a croc even one that has eaten your son or daughter. Go figger.

Kinda reminds me of a joke about a hick went to town wit hhis duck to see what he could get for it :) 25 bucks for a f**ed up duck :) I can send ya the whole joke but it isnt a proper thing for this here place. :)

Actually I've heard of one even crazier here in Oregon. I wish I could site it... Anyway some wacko dressed up as a deer during hunting season. When someone shot at him and missed, he called the police on a cell phone and reported that hunters were trying to kill him.

It's really amazing that he wasn't killed in the process. Needless to say the county sheriff told him to get out of the woods...

Given all the hunters blasting away at ducks and duck-like people, I don't think the gross generalzition about Aussies is very accurate.

Actually, crocs are returning to pre decimation population sizes in the areas still left that they can as a bunch of their prime habitat has been taken over. So yeah, they were overhunted and driven from areas and are now trying to re-establish themselves. They aren't in new areas, but simply moving back, sort of like the black bear problem in many areas of the US where people feel like the bears don't belong.

Did I hear Sally Struthers say something about saving the children? The oldest Australian records of crocs eating people can be traced back to Aborigine stories and lore that pre-date the western occupation of Australia by a long shot. Western accounts have people being consumed as well. Crocs aren't doing anything new and getting animals from the areas around the waterways is typical predatory behavior.

The same thing happens primarily in the Gulf coastal states. If you leave your kids, pets, etc. in an area where a gator can get them, sometimes they will. Adults get taken as well. Before beind heavily hunted, their range was much greater. Now they they are recovering, they are reoccupying former range and folks are aghast.

Why of course they are! And these decent taxpayers probably want the Government to do something about it, and right away! Something like pass a law, make it illegal for a croc to be uncivilized, like trying to eat you while you're fishing (recent internet news story).

Really, I think it's hilarious, people think the wild animals are like a zoo, you get to watch but not feed them. In reality, if you are not careful, you might just end up feeding them. But yes, the Aussies do have a problem on their hands, similar to the problem they are having with kangaroos and camels, only the "salties" can eat you.

But crocs are cute and family friendly! See?

What's that old saying,,,

“When You’re Up To Your Ass In Alligators It’s Easy To Forget Your Objective Was To Drain The Swamp.”

“When You’re Up To Your Ass In Alligators It’s Easy To Forget Your Objective Was To Drain The Swamp.”

What a great quote. I don't know if it reflects the statement of a real person or is a joke, but it does reflect how short sighted and incompetent humans often are when it comes to being stewards of the land and water. Draining the swamps seems like a great way to make more land that can be turned for a profit, but it turns out that said swamps are great biological resources that do a heck of a job being habitat and reproductive habit for a bunch of game animals (especially birds and fish, not to mention gators, but I did). Such wetland habitats do a fine job of helping fight water pollution by acting as a natural filtration and processing station. In fact, engineered wetlands are being installed in some areas to help with water filtration and they provide new habitat as well. Think of all the money the folks at Ducks Unlimited have spent to make or save habitat for game and here we could get cities to put in their own wetland swamps and purify waste water with fewer chemicals (some such swamps are totally or near totally chem-free in the processing) as well as helping to supporting hunting via regenerated habitat.
