At what point does being prepared go overboard

The test is strap on as many guns and equipment as possible, rise and take 12 steps. If youcan do it, you're not over-prepared.

Gimme my 12 steps Cookie!

HA HA HA HA HA HAH AH AHAHA HAH AH AH AH AHHA HA HAHA HA HAH AH AH HAHA HAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH HAHAHHAAAAAAAAAAAAA

THATS FUNNY!

Way to much gear

I strongly believe in escalating levels of protection but the dude Chemmix described is carrying paranoia to a strange and scary level. This person sounds like a mass murder waiting to happen.

I got chastized on this forum before for saying this..

IMHO The chances of me having to use one of my guns in self defense in my entire lifetime are pretty slim. The chances of needing a BUG are even far less. A BUG for his BUG, Maybe, just maybe he's a mall ninja. I wonder how many times he's watched "The Taxi Driver"?

3 guns, 2 knives, 4 mags, and a baton? That's way too much, even for Ann Arbor. The only time I would carry that much is if I was walking through Detroit, Chicago, or NYC. Can you say paranoid?

As a guy who carries two guns and two knives, I am pretty forgiving. Assuming he knows how to use that baton, I will even spot him that.

But four extra magazines sounds pretty extreme. Even LEOs usually carry only two.

Still, if he's comfortable, more power to him!:)

Although, I didn't hear anything about a tactical illumination device.:p

Never had a baton, but don't you just beat people with it? I can understand there might be a few tricks but to know how to use one is pretty straight forward IMO

I carry a flashlight and a knife 24/7, and they come in very handy nearly daily.

My state won't permit me to defend myself with a firearm, though. If I could, I'd carry one, and a backup mag. More than that would exceed my needs, my perceived threat level, my competence and my weight-carrying ability. To say nothing of my pants falling down around my ankles from the heavy metal.

or what if a family member or good friend had been shot and killed in close proximity and he lived?

or what if he had faced gunfire before ?

or what if he had been threatened with death by someone that he knew would not hesitate to carry out that threat?

or what if he had seen something most of you have only seen on tv or in a video game?

what makes anyone here think he wasn't trained?
your own expert skills in street combat?

In total, the officers fired 81 rounds at him. Wicks was wounded by a bullet to the stomach and suffered a fatal shot to the head in the exchange.

these guys are trained federal agents and they fired 81 rounds and hit the perp 2x. both of those shots were lucky. ;)

you are prepared when you live and the other person dies.

"over prepared" ? well if you aren't it will be too late when you know it.

Being prepared goes overboard if you are carrying so much gear as an ordinary citizen carrying out routine activities that if you fall in the water, you cannot swim.

You may be overly prepared if the National Guard comes to you personally for supplies during a crisis.

There are many people in this world who would make fun of all of us for
carrying just one gun, even thinking we may need a gun.

I loose a little bit of pride for this site every time I see someone scream someone is a mall ninja or comando wannabe because of equipment carried.

If the guy ever gets into a situation where he doesn't want to shoot or knife someone, perhaps a somewhat unfriendly neighbors dog, the asp will come in handy. Should the guy get into an extended gun fight he's far better equiped that they guy with just one gun, no mags, no bugs.

Statisticaly we're all paranoid for carrying a gun. Odds are you'll never need it. I think we have no grounds for chastizing someone who chooses to prepare a little better than us.

Is it more than I'd feel comfortable carrying? Yes, but I'm not hounding him for it. Do many of you carry less than I'd feel comfortable carrying? Yes, but I don't hound you.

It is always overkill, 'till the day you need it. Then you'll be glad you have it.

It occurred to me...

Why doesn't he just carry 2 Glocks? As long as they're the same caliber they take the same mags, right?

I'm not a glock fan so this didn't hit me right away, but yeah?

Don't ask me how I know, but I think guys who have "there's never enough" issues do not actually have a problem with firearms. Something else is eating at them. If this guy was my friend, I would sit him down, tell him I support him, and ask him to take an MMPI2 test from a qualified mental health professional.

Laugh if you will, but before you pass judgement, look for a cable TV show called "Hoarders." These folks are truly unhappy, and there's no need to suffer. The correct meds and a little cognitive therapy can give these folks their lives back.

It sounds like a bit much, but as long as it doesn't impair his enjoyment of life, more power to him. Personally, i don't have a carry permit yet, and if i did, i think my XD45 & an extra mag should be plenty to cover my escape, though a smoke grenade would be a nice backup. As it stands, there is a firearm in my car (legal in MS) & i feel decently secure with that.

I mean come on, what are you gonna do with a Kbar at a gun range?
Maybe he was worried about stuck cartridges/FTE's? :D
