At what point does being prepared go overboard

I have known this guy for several months, we aren't friends but we talk when we see each other. While in conversation CCW came up and I told him that I am waiting for my permit. He decided to show me his EDC. He carry's a glock 23 with 4 extra mags, a Kimber ultra carry on the small of his back, and a some type of revolver on his ankle I don't remember which one. Also 2 knifes and a collapsible baton . This explains his type of dress almost all year, either a baggy hoodie, or a baggy cut off hoodie. I am not gonna judge anyone for doing what they feel they need to do to feel safe, but this seems over board for me.

At what point do you guys feel its too much?

You mean he doesn't carry a ballistic shield and a string of grenades? I would say the guy is a slacker who has no shame about his self-imposed inability to protect himself and his family.

yeah... too much IMO

unless he is in Detroit, but Ann Arbor? i mean Ann Arbor isnt as nice a town as Lansing, but its no Detroit or Flint even!...:D

sounds like your acquaintance/friend has a bit of a mall ninja complex

Police academy wanna be????

Remember the scene when the dork hookups with the hottie? And they keep pulling weapons out as they get ready to do the deed?

He may think this will come true? You can always dream.

I'm gonna play Devil's Advocate and ask...was he just doing this for the range or a one day only thing?

If not...get his gamertag for COD

I saw him at the gas station. We had a English class like 2 years ago. I have never talked firearms with him before, so I don't believe its a one day thing, he was getting gas before going to target.

I guess he's just practicing his constitutional rights, but I'd would just be happy to be able to adequately and comfortable conceal a full-size auto with a decent capacity magazine full of high-grade hollow-points!

I cannot believe I didn't figure it out before

The reason is actually pretty good.

He currently does not own a gun safe and doesn't want to worry about his guns being stolen when he's not at home. Rather responsible owner.

Yeah, but does he know what to do with any of it? Does he have a big picture of Robert DeNero in a Mohawk and drive a taxi?

I was at an outdoor range probably 20 years ago now when a young guy shows up with his girlfriend with a brand new 9mm. He had a black tank top, fatigues and black jump boots with a friggin Kbar strapped to his leg! Me and my buddies kept glancing at him and snickering so he finally left. He only shot a couple mags. I mean come on, what are you gonna do with a Kbar at a gun range?

IMHO it seems a little excessive. But we don't know what this person has been through in life, to warrant him being that excessive.

Being prepared is a lot more than how much weaponry one can carry. I wonder if he has any training? Any force on force experience?

Who knows, that sort of thing screams "wanna-be commando" to me but the guy might be a Navy SEAL.

All I know is that it WAY, way, way more than I carry or can conceivably imagine carrying. I stop at one gun, no spare anything, no knives, no lights, no baton.
