At the range with new SW M&P 2.0

The trigger is supposed to be a M&P PRO trigger, so it should be noticeably better than a basic "1.0" trigger.

The oil that comes in a gun from the factory is not meant as lubricant for function. It is there to keep the gun from rusting while it is being shipped or stored prior to purchase.

The first thing that should be done with a new firearm is to detail strip it to clean out the shipping grease/oil, and check for imperfections.

I'm not saying that your poroblems weren't caused by a lemon, but you should do what you can to make sure. This is the firearms equivlent of the old IT standard, "Did you shut it down, and turn it back on?"

I did clean the gun repeatedly before firing so that's not it.
Sent it back to SW and will see it in 3-4 weeks.

back from SW after 4 weeks. Piece of paper states 'Doesn't go into battery. Damaged slide stop replaced. Test Fired'. I tried slingshot with no-mag and it works flawlessly...so far. Will take it to the range and report back.

Thanks for the update.

back from the range. Run flawlessly for 130 rounds of budget ammo.
On the very very last round I got slide closing on empty mag!! not sure what to make of that.

Also, if someone can please take a look at the attached picture. I'm not sure if this is how the slide stop looked before I sent it back to SW, but around it the frame looks all torn up. If anyone has mp 2.0 can they check if theirs looks like this.

asked another person to take a look at their MP 2.0 slide stop and it looks just as torn-up and messy as mine. Not too sure what to make of this. I wouldn't expect such shoddy worksmanship from SW.

I am no fan of S&W and their "quality" is just one of the reasons. Send it back to them is my second thought - it might help them to make quality guns in the future.
My first thought was to buy a quality gun from a manufacturer of quality guns but that seemed to come from my prejudice and not very compassionate.

@shootistPRS. (Sigh) I am really getting sour on the entire SW line-up. I am shopping for a carry gun now and Shield/Bodyguard would be my first choices if not this entire experience with MP2

That doesn't look good. I'm wondering about S&W quality control. I played around with the new M&P 2.0 the other day and still wasn't crazy with the trigger. I'm waiting for the new CZ P10 to compare.

Is it more than a $400 gun or less than?

If it is more than it is because it needs to be broken in or you are holding it wrong.

If it is less than it is junk and your fault for not buying a better gun.

I think that is normally how discussion of issues on gun forums go at least.

Mine has been flawless. Clanky out of the box but after lubing at the recommended points and a few rounds it's pretty slick. I've not read a single 2.0 review that notes reliability issues.

I prefer the 2.0 trigger over Glocks for target shooting. It is a single action and by all rights ought to be better. The Glock is somewhere between single and double action. The virtually weightless pre-travel in the 2.0 trigger is your safety factor. After that, mine is an impressively clean 5-ish pound single action break. Reset is short, repeat as needed.

A co-worker recently got a single stack Glock .45ACP which had feeding problems from day one. Glock was as helpful as can be over several returns for warrantee work but the problem did not get better. They eventually gave him his choice of any standard pistol as a replacement.

These things can happen to the best of companies. Just be glad that you're dealing with a company which has good service.
