Aside from the obvious, what made you carry full-time?

I've been carrying so long, I actually feel wierd if I don't have my gun with me. This is sad to say but on those rare occasions when I can't carry for some reason or another, I really don't like that feeling of vulnerability. I get a "Please God, not today, ok?" sentiment if I am unarmed.

And Suwannee Tim - I am in the same boat. I have never been hurt by a dog and don't have anything against them (I've owned dogs most of my life), but I had to kill a pit bull in my own yard that chased me into my house (I shut the door on it, but my kids were out in the back yard, so I promptly came back out and shot it dead).

I don't play games with dogs - it's not hard to tell when they are aggessive - unless it's a lap dog, if one comes after me unobstructed I'll shoot it. There are no alternatives.

often quoted but it really is why I carry all the time...

and why at home it is alway within arms reach...

"It is far better to have a gun and not need it than
to need it and not have it."

carry

Yes , I carry all the time now. Especially in high crime areas. Just watch the news, no jobs, no money, equals more crime. We live in different times my friends and its only going to get worse.

I have to go with Churchill's reasoning, slightly paraphrased: "If I ever do need a handgun for protection, I am going to need one very badly". We live in difficult times with an eroding sense of right & wrong and an increasing entitlement mentality. I refuse to be a defenseless victim when one of these "confused" individuals decides to feed off my hard work or hurt me or mine.

Good to have 15 friends

I carry a CZ-P-01, 14 in the mag and one in the pipe. It is my constant companion. I do not remover my holster (a High Noon tuckable) until I prepare for sleep, and then a .45 cal Glock 36 is within reach.

Why?

Because I am a healthy, fit 75. Because at my age I can be seen as a 'pigeon' awaiting plucking, because BG's run in packs, because I adore She Who Must Be Obeyed, because I want to see my great grandkids, because the Great State of Florida tacitly encourages us to do so. Never mind because I can.

My right hand is never very far from a loaded and ready gun. I dress for business, shirt, tie and coat, sometimes a tuxedo. I don't worry about printing.

Even in the hottest summer weather I carry.

Oh yeah, She Who Must Be Obeyed is 67 and a licensee. She's a better shot than I am. She loves her .45.........

I do treasure and cherish the woman.

I think you'll get a lot of answers from the following thread:

What is your answer when asked why do you carry a gun?

Me, I've got a few more weeks to wait for my carry permit, at which point I'll be buying my first handgun. Why? Well, I've always wanted one, but what spurred me into going through with it was the way the current presidential administration and his henchcongress have been running roughshod over our Constitutional rights. I felt that if the 2nd Amendment were ever defeated (the notion of which has been starting to look alarmingly less unlikely), I would rather be one of the "criminals" remaining with a stash of firearms.

I attended my first gun & knife show this past weekend. I spoke with an elderly gentleman there for a while at one point. He told me that, though he has been to his share of gun shows, he had never seen the sort of turnout we had that day - not even close.

Draw your own conclusions.

What made me carry full time

I arrested people for 30 years. Many were not happy about it. I plan on living as long as I can.

I get a "Please God, not today, ok?" sentiment if I am unarmed.
Been there, done that many times. I've gotten to the point where if I can't be armed, I try not to do it, try to get out of it, whatever.

2 weeks ago my mom's house was robbed, in the middle of the day, by my drugged up sister. They took everything, including the safe with 2 handguns in it. She disappeared to be with her drugged up boyfriend and gang member friends. But, she knows where I live and I have a wife and kids. She has since been arrested, but who knows what she told her friends. So, I now carry full-time, even when at home, and we keep the shotgun near us at all times.

She may get lots of time for this burglary and the other crimes like selling stolen goods, transporting stolen firearms across state lines, and other charges. But, as screwed up as the court system is these days, she may be out quickly, and then what? She'll likely need money, and who knows?

I thought a newspaper reporter should report on political corruption, and I'd get the full protection of the municipal police department.

HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa!

Seriously!

I will not be a victim, I will not allow others around me be a victim if I can help!
Far to many people have killed and or seriously injured at times when one person could have made a difference.
I hope and pray I never have to use my firearm against another human being, but I am very skilled and willing to use it if I have to!

Well, I don't and here's why. In all my 60+ years I've never had and experience nor heard first hand of an experience in which a handgun would have been useful. I realize there's a first time for everything but so far I've haven't seen it. While I've seen bears in the woods, I've never ever seen feral dogs, something that seems to happen to others here with some frequency. I've never been woken in the middle of the night with strange noises in the last 30 years but on the other hand, at our house, there is almost always someone awake all day and all night long.

Weapons are not permitted where I work. And anymore I hardly go anywhere else. My commute is shared with about 500 of my closest friends, so I'm never alone.

My one and only shooting buddy had a carry permit. He said he got it so he could carry when he was walking his dog. Something about dogs keeps coming up on this forum. Anyway, he moved away and I quit shooting after that.

I have had to call the police twice, once because I found something that I felt the police should know about, the other time because of a car accident that happened in my front yard. They are Johnny-on-the-spot where I live and judging from recent events, never get in trouble when they shoot unarmed people. You folks ought to do more to get your govenment to do what government is there to do. Don't let people feed you that line that government isn't responsible for anything.

You people live in fear.

BlueTrain,
Although I agree with a couple of your points (government accountability for one) I struggle to understand why you are a member of this forum.

wyobohunter I think i can understand what Bluetrain is doing. He is on here to be the voice of the opposition. A liberal socialist troll. He is ok with all our freedoms and safety being taken away. He could even be a politician.

Only a socialist would say "The government is supposed to take care of all our problems like a clinging mommy". But in reality its tyranny. You must feel warm and comforted in your "Nothing bad will ever happen, everything is ok", oddball reality. Tell that to the 64 year old woman who was raped, beaten 2 hours long, and robbed on my street last week.

Bluetrain, people deserve the right to defend themselves.

We on this forum live with what is a healthy reality based fear. Its healthy and normal mentally. Its not paranoia. Its not panic. Its not irrational. Its a natural defense mechanism based in common sense that you obviously lack. I would say the lacking of this normal human trait could be a source of a real problem for you. For your safey and health i hope this forum rubs off on you.

To all responders in this thread:

Let's not forget that each and every member has a right to voice their opinion as long as it doesn't go to a personal level. In return, every member also has a right to rebut another member's opinion with their own opinion, again as long as it doesn't go to a personal level.

So far, everyone seems to understand that. However, this thread has the potential to slip a bit from the ideals set forth on TFL. Please don't attempt to make that potential a reality.

Thanks in advance.

You mean people like the Justices on the Supreme Court of the United States?

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/28/politics/28scotus.html

Justices Rule Police Do Not Have a Constitutional Duty to Protect Someone

For hours on the night of June 22, 1999, Jessica Gonzales tried to get the Castle Rock police to find and arrest her estranged husband, Simon Gonzales, who was under a court order to stay 100 yards away from the house. He had taken the children, ages 7, 9 and 10, as they played outside, and he later called his wife to tell her that he had the girls at an amusement park in Denver.

Ms. Gonzales conveyed the information to the police, but they failed to act before Mr. Gonzales arrived at the police station hours later, firing a gun, with the bodies of the girls in the back of his truck. The police killed him at the scene.

The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that the police did not have a constitutional duty to protect a person from harm, even a woman who had obtained a court-issued protective order against a violent husband making an arrest mandatory for a violation.

I live in Central America. A month ago a guy had his arms and head matcheted in the middle of the street less than a mile from the open air outdoor BBQ business I operate (and live behind). My wife's sister was shot and killed in an attempted abduction. There are more guns in this country than there are flush toilets. Crack has hit poor neighborhoods here 10X worse than anything that happened in LA or DC in the late 80's. I am a gringo, a big one. The avg gross yearly income country wide is less than $1,700 USD per year. The buisness next door was robbed by men dressed in POLICIA attire a couple months ago (not cops). Basically, people suck

I have plenty of guns and still can not get comfortable with an IWB holster.
It is hot all year.
